Job summary

Atribs Metscon Group in Abu Dhabi seeks an experienced Kong Administrator cum Developer to design, build, and optimize API solutions using Kong API Gateway. You will work with engineers and product managers to ensure secure, scalable APIs that meet business needs.

The role requires Kong expertise, Lua scripting, Kubernetes, RBAC, and cloud platform experience (AWS/Azure/GCP). Collaboration and problem solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
• Proven experience as a Kong Administrator and Developer with deep Kong knowledge.
• Strong understanding of API design principles (RESTful APIs, OpenAPI).
• Experience with web services and microservices architectures.
• Scripting in Lua or Python.
• DevOps practices and tools (Git, CI/CD).
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Kong certifications or equivalent preferred.
• RBAC implementations knowledge.
• Kubernetes and Kong Ingress experience.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with OAuth/OIDC/Auth0 for API security.
• Experience with API testing tools (Postman, JMeter, Insomnia).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and configure Kong entities (services, routes, plugins, caching).
• Develop Lua scripts for advanced functionality.
• Integrate Kong with existing APIs and back-end systems.
• Manage API security, including authentication, authorization, and rate limiting.
• Implement traffic management features like load balancing and caching.
• Monitor, debug, and troubleshoot Kong performance and issues.
• Automate Kong configurations in a DevOps pipeline.
• Create and maintain API documentation in Kong Developer Portal.
• Keep up-to-date with Kong features and best practices.
• Create, customize and maintain Kong plugins; implement request/response transformations.
• Apply RBAC for securing API endpoints.
