Role Context
The Senior Interior Designer will lead the development of sophisticated interior environments that balance creative ambition, functionality, buildability, and commercial requirements. Working within a multidisciplinary design studio, the role will shape projects from early concept through detailed documentation while maintaining consistency in material language, spatial quality, technical accuracy, and overall design intent. The position carries significant influence over guest and resident experience, especially across 4-star and 5-star hospitality environments. Strong coordination with Architecture, Structures, MEP, Lighting, AV, Kitchen, Landscape, BIM, specialist consultants, contractors, and suppliers will be essential to ensure design ideas translate successfully into completed spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead interior design development for hospitality, F&B, mixed-use, residential, and selected retail projects.
- Take projects from initial Concept Design through Design Development, Tender, and IFC stages.
- Translate project briefs into cohesive design concepts that support functional, aesthetic, and commercial objectives.
- Develop mood boards, material palettes, concept presentations, sketches, space planning studies, and design narratives.
- Prepare and review general arrangement drawings, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, joinery details, millwork packages, schedules, and technical specifications.
- Ensure design packages demonstrate strong understanding of materials, finishes, detailing, construction methods, and buildability.
- Coordinate DD, Tender, and IFC documentation so all interior design information is technically complete and aligned with project requirements.
- Work closely with Architecture, BIM, MEP, Lighting, AV, Kitchen, Signage, Landscape, and specialist consultants.
- Resolve design interfaces and technical conflicts before they affect tendering or site execution.
- Review shop drawings and fabrication details submitted by contractors and specialist suppliers.
- Assess material submittals, mock-ups, samples, and prototypes against approved design intent.
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers regarding finishes, furniture, fixtures, equipment, joinery, and technical solutions.
- Coordinate FF&E and OSE requirements with relevant design and procurement stakeholders.
- Maintain consistency between approved concepts and final construction documentation.
- Respond to RFIs and provide technical clarification during construction.
- Carry out site inspections to verify workmanship, material application, and compliance with approved interior design details.
- Resolve design issues arising during construction while protecting the overall concept and quality objectives.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews across drawings, specifications, schedules, and coordinated design packages.
- Identify design risks, missing information, coordination gaps, and potential programme impacts at an early stage.
- Manage multiple deliverables simultaneously while maintaining agreed design deadlines.
- Ensure interior design solutions comply with local regulations, accessibility requirements, life safety provisions, and applicable industry standards.
- Present design proposals clearly to internal stakeholders and project decision-makers.
- Support the Interior Design Manager with design reviews, project priorities, and technical decision-making across active developments.
- Maintain accurate design revisions and ensure updated information is communicated to relevant project teams.
- Contribute to the development of design standards, material strategies, and repeatable quality benchmarks across the studio.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- Strong professional experience delivering hotel and hospitality interiors, preferably within 4-star and 5-star environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept development through IFC documentation.
- Strong design sensibility supported by practical understanding of construction, detailing, and buildability.
- Experienced in developing mood boards, material palettes, technical drawings, specifications, and presentation material.
- Comprehensive knowledge of finishes, joinery, millwork, fixtures, furniture, and interior material applications.
- Familiar with tender documentation and contractor coordination during construction.
- Able to review shop drawings, samples, mock-ups, and material submissions critically.
- Comfortable coordinating with multidisciplinary consultants and specialist design teams.
- Strong understanding of hospitality planning, guest experience, operational requirements, and premium interior standards.
- Able to resolve technical design issues while maintaining the intended aesthetic outcome.
- Confident working with suppliers, contractors, manufacturers, and specialist fabricators.
- Strong QA/QC awareness and attention to drawing accuracy.
- Able to manage parallel project packages and demanding deadlines.
- Residential and retail project exposure is advantageous.
- Strong communication, presentation, coordination, and problem-solving capability.
