Role Context

This position combines frontline emergency response leadership with responsibility for developing the competence and readiness of firefighting personnel operating in a high-risk oil and gas environment. The Senior Fire Training Officer supports continuous emergency coverage across island operational and municipal facilities and may assume command of an incident until relieved by a more senior fire officer. The position also helps ensure that firefighters, auxiliary teams, offshore personnel, contractors, and marine support crews are appropriately trained to respond to fires, hydrocarbon releases, chemical incidents, rescue situations, and medical emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond on a 24-hour basis to fires, hydrocarbon releases, toxic gas incidents, rescue emergencies, and fire loss control situations across assigned island facilities.
• Assume Incident Commander responsibilities during emergency events until command is transferred to a more senior fire officer.
• Lead and supervise firefighting personnel during fire suppression, oil and chemical spill response, hydrocarbon release control, rescue activities, and medical emergencies.
• Supervise activities of the island Fire Training Centre under the direction of the Lead Fire Training Officer.
• Ensure training programs are delivered in accordance with approved Fire Service policies, competency requirements, and recognized professional standards.
• Develop training materials and deliver professional emergency response instruction to Fire Service personnel at different competency levels.
• Provide structured training for UAE Nationals participating in Career Development Programs and Personnel Development Programs.
• Deliver fire, chemical incident, emergency response team, breathing apparatus, and life-support training for offshore facilities, contractors, and associated marine vessels.
• Develop realistic emergency response scenarios and coordinate simulated exercises involving Fire Teams and Auxiliary Fire Teams.
• Evaluate emergency exercise performance and identify opportunities to improve response capability, coordination, and preparedness.
• Provide practical instruction on specialist firefighting and life-support equipment used by Fire Service technicians.
• Train personnel in the operation and safe use of carbon dioxide and air compressors, bulk dry chemical filling equipment, breathing apparatus test rigs, and related emergency equipment.
• Conduct routine inspections of operational facilities to verify compliance with company HSE requirements, fire codes, and applicable standards.
• Prepare inspection findings, safety observations, behavioral safety assessments, and related compliance reports.
• Supervise testing and maintenance activities involving major firefighting vehicles to ensure equipment reliability and personnel competency.
• Coordinate testing of marine firefighting tugs and major fire-main components to confirm emergency readiness.
• Review and develop departmental emergency response procedures, technical instructions, equipment maintenance programs, and training manuals.
• Evaluate firefighting and emergency response procedures against operational requirements and recognized industry practices.
• Develop and review procedures for the safe disposal of chemicals and hazardous substances.
• Coordinate safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals arising from emergency incidents and routine operational requirements.
• Plan, supervise, and coordinate activities of assigned Fire Service personnel to meet operational and training objectives.
• Coach, train, and develop team members to strengthen technical competence and emergency response performance.
• Provide input into departmental budgets and approved work plans and support effective expenditure control.
• Identify significant budget or operational variances and raise them for appropriate management action.
• Implement approved policies, processes, systems, procedures, and technical standards in accordance with company requirements.

Ideal Profile

The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor 's degree and have 5-6 years of relevant experience in firefighting, fire protection, emergency response, or the use of fire and life-support equipment within the oil industry. A substantial portion of this experience should include senior-level responsibilities involving supervision, emergency response leadership, firefighter development, or operational command. The position requires practical knowledge of industrial firefighting, hydrocarbon emergencies, toxic gas releases, oil and chemical spill response, rescue procedures, breathing apparatus, firefighting vehicles, fire-main systems, and life-support equipment. Candidates must be capable of assuming command during emergency situations, directing firefighting teams under pressure, and delivering structured technical training to personnel with varying levels of experience. Proficiency in English is required. Professional certification at Watch Commander level and Fire Service Instructor certification, or recognized equivalents, are required.
