Job summary

Space42 seeks a Senior Engineer – DevOps to design, deploy, and operate enterprise-grade virtualised infrastructure in the UAE. You will manage VMware vSphere, Proxmox, and Linux KVM, build secure networks, and ensure compliance across air-gapped environments.

You will automate provisioning with Terraform and Ansible, and support Kubernetes-based deployments. You will mentor junior engineers and drive infrastructure best practices while maintaining robust observability and incident response

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, Proxmox, and Linux KVM.
• Proven ability to design and operate enterprise-grade virtualization and network infrastructures.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Python, and shell scripting.
• Experience with Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD.

Responsibilities

Job Description

As a Senior Engineer – DevOps, you will design, deploy, and operate enterprise‑grade virtualised infrastructure using VMware, Proxmox, and Linux KVM for production and critical client systems. You will build and maintain secure, scalable network architectures for hybrid, air‑gapped, and restricted environments, while managing the full data‑centre infrastructure lifecycle, including capacity planning, hardware procurement, and operational optimisation. You will also ensure the reliability, security, and compliance of mission‑critical infrastructure through disciplined change control.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage VMware vSphere, Proxmox, and Linux KVM virtualised environments at scale.
• Manage the full virtual machine lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, performance optimisation, and decommissioning.
• Implement cluster management, resource allocation, high availability, disaster recovery, hypervisor security, patching, and compliance.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, optimise resource utilisation, and manage capacity across physical hosts, including air‑gapped environments.
• Design secure network architectures and configure firewalls, switches, routers, load balancers, and VPN solutions.
• Plan and execute network migrations, consolidations, segmentation, VLANs, security policies, and inter‑data‑centre connectivity.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimise bandwidth utilisation.
• Operate production systems at critical client sites using enterprise‑grade change control and documentation.
• Manage servers, storage, backup, disaster recovery, capacity planning, procurement, lifecycle management, security, compliance, and asset inventories.
• Develop infrastructure‑as‑code using Terraform and Ansible to automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• Create shell, Python, and API‑based automation, operational tools, and incident‑response runbooks.
• Support GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Argo CD deployments, Kubernetes clusters, Helm, container registries, and secure image deployment.
• Build infrastructure observability capabilities, including proactive monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting procedures, automated remediation, and incident analysis.

Qualifications

• Strong hands‑on experience with virtualisation technologies, including VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, Proxmox, Linux KVM, libvirt, and QEMU.
• In‑depth knowledge of cluster operations, resource allocation, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance optimisation.
• Strong expertise in network architecture and topology design, including firewalls, switches, routers, load balancers, VPNs, VLANs, network segmentation, WAN, MPLS, and SD‑WAN.
• Proficiency in infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, shell scripting, Python, and API integrations.
• Experience with storage and backup technologies, including SAN, NAS, object storage, distributed file systems, replication, and RTO/RPO planning.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Argo CD, GitOps workflows, and container registry operations.
• Strong knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, alerting, log analysis, Linux administration, and Windows Server environments.
• Extensive experience in infrastructure operations and data centre management within enterprise or mission‑critical environments.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot complex network and infrastructure environments.
• Experience operating critical production systems under formal change management, security, and compliance frameworks.
• Experience working within air‑gapped or restricted environments, multi‑site infrastructure, and data centre consolidation projects is highly desirable.
• Exposure to hardware procurement, vendor management, HPC or GPU infrastructure, SAN or distributed storage, and security hardening is advantageous.
• Experience across multiple virtualisation platforms, large‑scale network operations, incident response, and post‑incident improvement is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of infrastructure and operational best practices.
