Job description

Senior Construction Support Engineer - Installation is a full‑time position located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates within the Oil and Energy sector. The role requires 8 to 15 years of experience in construction support and installation engineering across onshore and offshore projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform conceptual, FEED, study, and detailed engineering analyses in accordance with project design basis, specifications, design codes, and approved standards.
  • Prepare accurate design calculations, engineering analyses, technical reports, construction procedures, installation procedures, and supporting project documentation.
  • Direct engineering activities as a Project Coordinator on small projects when assigned.
  • Apply construction support engineering knowledge to standard and nonstandard technical situations across fabrication, installation, and offshore execution.
  • Manage assigned engineering tasks within agreed deadlines, budgets, short‑term work plans, and discipline priorities.
  • Review project scope of work, specifications, schedules, deliverables, construction sequence, and inter‑discipline requirements to identify concerns early.
  • Communicate complex engineering and construction issues clearly to discipline leads, fabrication teams, marine teams, vendors, subcontractors, clients, and project stakeholders.
  • Identify scope changes and promptly raise change notifications with supporting documents, technical estimates, and variation order input.
  • Interface with engineering disciplines to support clash‑free designs, coordinated deliverables, and practical construction or installation solutions.
  • Work closely with planning, fabrication, marine, procurement, document control, safety, project management, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
  • Prepare discipline design basis documents, technical specifications, philosophies, deliverable lists, and construction support engineering inputs.
  • Raise technical queries to obtain missing information, clarify work scope, and maintain McDermott procedures, specifications, standards, practices, and operational requirements.
  • Attend project review meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, technical audits, and offshore site surveys when required.
  • Provide technical direction and review for designers producing construction and installation support engineering deliverables.
  • Provide design inputs to other disciplines so their engineering deliverables can progress accurately and on schedule.
  • Assist procurement teams when assigned by preparing and reviewing requisitions, technical quotation evaluations, bid tabulations, purchase requisitions, and vendor document requirements.
  • Check engineering work performed by others within the discipline and verify deliverables through single‑discipline checks and inter‑discipline checks.
  • Provide technical support for fabrication queries, including defect review, rectification requirements, and construction‑related issue resolution.
  • Keep the Lead Engineer informed of all technical, budgetary, manpower, progress, productivity, and project concern areas.
  • Support actual, planned, and forecast progress reporting with discipline inputs and productivity information.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and third‑party technical audits for engineering deliverables and vendor documents.
  • Assist with responses to customers, certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, and other reviewing agencies.
  • Capture lessons learned and enter relevant findings into the MDR Lessons Learned system.
  • Guide less experienced engineers on discipline procedures, standards, worksheets, design calculations, software, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and technical queries.
  • Maintain cost awareness for assigned work and contribute to efficient discipline execution.
  • Perform and review erection sequences for jackets, topsides, and other structural assemblies.
  • Prepare and review loadout procedures and provide engineering guidance during loadout operations.
  • Develop and review construction lift analyses and procedures for floatover, stacking, roll‑up, and other critical construction activities.
  • Prepare and review weighing procedures, crane arrangements, rigging arrangements, trailer arrangements, operational drawings, and related procedures.
  • Design and detail miscellaneous fabrication yard items required for safe and efficient execution.
  • Assist the Lead Engineer in coordinating critical operations pre‑activity meetings and attend yard critical operations as required.
  • Support pipeline installation engineering work when required, including transportation and installation designs for submarine pipelines, risers, spools, PLETs, manifolds, and cables.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
  • 8 to 15 years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor or consultant.
  • Strong background in construction and installation design for offshore, onshore, fabrication, marine, or major energy infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction engineering techniques, analysis methods, fabrication support methods, and installation engineering procedures.
  • Detailed understanding of applicable standards, codes, technical guidelines, and project requirements for onshore and offshore construction.
  • Experience with fabrication yard support, erection sequencing, loadout planning, lift analysis, rigging design, weighing procedures, trailer operations, and critical construction activities.
  • Ability to review calculations, technical procedures, engineering drawings, vendor documents, construction support deliverables, and installation documentation.
  • Capable of supporting fabrication teams with technical queries, rectification guidance, constructability solutions, and installation‑related decisions.
  • Strong coordination skills across engineering, fabrication, marine, safety, procurement, document control, project management, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
  • Able to guide engineers with less experience and act as a reliable discipline resource.
  • Preferably a Registered Professional Engineer or member of a recognized professional engineering society.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly.
  • Cost‑aware, safety‑focused, practical, and able to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Pipeline installation engineering experience involving submarine pipelines, risers, spools, PLETs, manifolds, or cables will be an added advantage.
