Job Overview
The Installation Analysis Engineer applies conceptual and developing practical knowledge of installation analysis to solve a range of engineering problems with a moderate level of guidance from colleagues and leadership. The role requires the engineer to analyze possible solutions using standard procedures, technical experience, judgment, and established precedents while building a deeper understanding of McDermott processes, project requirements, and customer needs.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Perform FEED, engineering studies, detailed design, analyses, and calculations for complex and demanding engineering assignments.
- Apply engineering knowledge and technical skills to varied installation analysis activities.
- Prepare accurate detailed design calculations, engineering analyses, design reports, and procedures.
- Prioritize and organize assigned work to meet project deadlines.
- Complete engineering activities within established budget requirements.
- Communicate technical information clearly during routine engineering activities.
- Develop a detailed understanding of project scope, specifications, schedules, and interdisciplinary requirements.
- Identify engineering concerns as early as practicable.
- Recognize scope changes and notify the Discipline Lead Engineer.
- Interface with engineering disciplines to support clash-free designs.
- Coordinate with other departments to obtain inputs required for discipline designs and drawings.
- Document substantive technical communications that result in significant decisions or assigned actions.
- Forward relevant communications to the Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager.
- Provide bid inputs as directed.
- Prepare detailed design sketches to guide Designers.
Procurement and Vendor Support
- Assist Procurement personnel with discipline equipment, materials, and services.
- Prepare technical requisitions.
- Evaluate technical quotations.
- Prepare technical queries.
- Compile bid tabulations and recommendations.
- Prepare purchase requisitions.
- Coordinate with Procurement to expedite vendor documentation as directed.
- Review material take-offs for requisitions.
- Assist with updating weight reports following receipt of vendor information.
- Review vendor and subcontractor submissions for compliance with project specifications.
- Provide technical comments on vendor documentation where necessary.
- Check final subcontractor and vendor data manuals to confirm that required data has been received and approved.
Design Verification and Coordination
- Check engineering drawings.
- Review engineering work completed by others within the discipline.
- Perform single-discipline design verification checks.
- Assist with inter-discipline checks.
- Keep the Lead Engineer informed of activities, progress, technical concerns, and outstanding issues.
- Capture lessons learned and record them in McDermott 's Lessons Learned system.
- Develop awareness of costs associated with assigned work and discipline activities.
Fabrication Construction Support Engineering
Within FabCSE, the Installation Analysis Engineer may perform or review designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures covering:
- Erection sequences for jackets, topsides, and other structures.
- Loadout procedures and operational guidance.
- Construction lift analyses and procedures.
- Floatover activities.
- Structural stacking and roll-up operations.
- Weighing procedures.
- Design and detailing of miscellaneous fabrication yard items.
- Crane arrangements.
- Rigging arrangements.
- Trailer arrangements and operations.
- Associated engineering drawings and procedures.
Pipeline Installation Engineering
Pipeline installation engineering capability is preferable but not mandatory. Relevant activities may include engineering designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures for transportation and installation, including installation aids, for:
- Submarine pipelines.
- Risers.
- Spools.
- PLETs and manifolds.
- Cables.
Structural Installation Engineering
Structural installation engineering capability is also preferable but not mandatory. Relevant work may include designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures covering:
- Loadout of offshore structures.
- Transportation of offshore structures.
- Offshore installation activities.
- Installation aids.
- Barge upgrades and modifications.
Naval Architecture and Marine Operations
Naval architecture capability is preferable but not mandatory. Relevant engineering activities may include designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures supporting:

Qualifications
- Bachelor 's degree in Naval Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master 's degree is preferred.
- Registered Engineer in Training or membership in a professional engineering society is preferred.
Experience
- 3-8 years of oil and gas industry experience.
- Experience with a major contractor or consultant.
- Predominant experience in detailed design activities.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with applicable engineering standards, codes, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of fundamental design techniques and analysis methods.
- Ability to prepare detailed engineering calculations and technical procedures.
