This role is suited for a senior engineer who can lead technical delivery across concept, detailed design, tender support, systems engineering, operational readiness, and multidisciplinary interface management for complex express railway and airport-connected infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and integration of baggage handling systems across feasibility, concept design, detailed design, tender support, procurement, delivery, testing, and commissioning stages.
- Define BHS technical requirements covering capacity, throughput, operational performance, reliability, maintainability, security, redundancy, and service availability.
- Develop system specifications, performance criteria, interface requirements, and operational assumptions for baggage handling within an express railway environment.
- Ensure baggage handling systems integrate effectively with station layouts, rail operations, passenger flows, airport processes, security requirements, and operational control systems.
- Support passenger and baggage planning solutions, including checked baggage flow, non-checked passenger segregation, transfer processes, terminal interfaces, and journey efficiency.
- Prepare and review Design and Construct tender documentation, including BHS technical specifications, employer requirements, performance standards, and interface definitions.
- Coordinate interface management between BHS and stations, rail systems, passenger information systems, operations planning, airport systems, security systems, and logistics processes.
- Support systems engineering activities including requirements capture, verification planning, validation strategy, traceability, configuration control, and design assurance.
- Develop testing and commissioning strategies for baggage handling systems, including factory testing, site testing, integration testing, trial operations, and operational readiness.
- Identify technical risks related to BHS integration, performance, reliability, passenger experience, operational constraints, and airport or railway interfaces.
- Develop practical mitigation measures for design gaps, interface conflicts, capacity limitations, technical risks, and commissioning challenges.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams, project managers, stakeholders, airport authorities, operators, contractors, system suppliers, and regulatory representatives.
- Ensure BHS design and delivery comply with project specifications, safety requirements, international standards, airport system best practices, and operational expectations.
- Provide technical leadership to project teams by reviewing specialist submissions, resolving interface issues, and supporting informed engineering decisions.
- Contribute to workshops, design reviews, stakeholder meetings, risk sessions, technical presentations, and progress discussions across all project stages.
- Support the Project Manager with technical inputs, design assurance, interface status, risk reporting, and delivery planning for complex rail and airport-integrated systems.
Ideal Profile
- Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in baggage handling systems, airport systems, rail systems, or large-scale transportation infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience in BHS design, system planning, technical integration, interface management, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness.
- Demonstrated background in airport-related infrastructure, high-capacity passenger environments, logistics systems, or rail-connected baggage handling solutions.
- Good understanding of passenger movement, baggage flow planning, checked baggage processing, non-checked passenger segregation, and transfer operations.
- Ability to coordinate BHS requirements with station layouts, rail operations, airport terminal processes, security procedures, and passenger information systems.
- Experience preparing or reviewing technical specifications, tender documents, performance requirements, interface matrices, and design deliverables.
- Familiarity with international standards, safety requirements, and best practices for baggage handling systems, airport operations, and transportation integration.
- Certification or membership with a recognized professional engineering institute or relevant association will be an advantage.
- Strong analytical ability with the confidence to identify technical risks, assess interface problems, and develop workable solutions.
- Proven communication and leadership skills for engaging with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, stakeholders, operators, and authority representatives.
