Job summary

24Baba is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to own backend systems, APIs, and data models. You will design scalable services using Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript, building robust PostgreSQL schemas with Prisma, and guiding integrations with external systems.

You’ll work independently, make thoughtful technical decisions, and translate complex business requirements into clean, maintainable code while improving security and reliability across production systems.

Qualifications

• Production backend apps using Node.js/TypeScript with NestJS.
• Strong PostgreSQL knowledge including indexing and optimization.
• Experience with Prisma or similar ORM and safe migrations.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to build, improve, and scale the backend systems behind our platform. You'll take ownership of backend development - designing APIs and database structures to improving performance, security, and production reliability.

This role is ideal for someone who can work independently, make thoughtful technical decisions, and turn complex business requirements into clean, maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services: Develop reliable REST APIs and business logic using Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript.
• Design and optimize databases: Manage PostgreSQL schemas, Prisma models, migrations, relationships, indexes, and complex queries while maintaining data integrity.
• Own features from development to production: Translate requirements into technical solutions, write tests, support deployments, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Develop integrations and background workflows: Integrate third-party services, payment gateways, webhooks, notifications, and scheduled tasks with appropriate error handling and retry mechanisms.
• Improve security and reliability: Implement authentication, role-based access control, input validation, logging, and monitoring.
• Raise engineering standards: Review code, document important decisions, mentor developers, and collaborate with frontend developers to deliver well-integrated features.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong professional experience developing and maintaining production backend applications using Node.js and TypeScript, with hands-on expertise in NestJS.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including relational database design, transactions, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience with Prisma or a similar ORM, including safe database migrations and schema changes.
• A solid understanding of API design, authentication, authorization, application security, and third-party integrations.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests, debugging complex issues, and working with Git-based development workflows.
• The ability to explain technical trade-offs, take ownership of your work, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates.

Nice to Have

Experience with caching, job queues, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud deployments, particularly DigitalOcean. Familiarity with Next.js integration and experience building booking, marketplace, or payment-related systems would be valuable.
