Job summary

SteerAI is seeking an experienced Software Architect to lead the design and development of software for autonomous ground robotics systems in Abu Dhabi. You will define the technical architecture, ensuring modularity, real-time performance, and seamless integration of perception, navigation, control, and decision-making modules.

You will guide the software team on best practices, architecture patterns, and security, while prototyping new approaches and validating technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering; Robotics or Mechanical Engineering may be considered.
• 8+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in software architecture roles.
• Strong understanding of robotics software frameworks (ROS/ROS2), real-time systems, and distributed computing.
• Proficiency in C++, Python, or similar, with low‑level programming and middleware experience.
• Expertise in perception, sensor fusion, SLAM, motion planning, and control algorithms for autonomous robots.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to guide technical discussions with non‑technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and develop software architecture for autonomous ground robots emphasizing modularity and real-time performance.
• Provide technical leadership on software design, code quality, and system security.
• Lead integration of perception, navigation, control, and decision-making modules.
• Select and implement appropriate software frameworks and middleware.
• Collaborate with algorithm engineers to deploy ML, perception, and sensor fusion algorithms.
• Prototype and validate new architectures and technologies.
• Ensure real-time operation and optimize performance of resource-intensive components.
• Create and maintain architecture documents, specs, and interface definitions.
