AKI is looking for a technically strong, commercially aware and hands-on Accounting Manager to join our Regional Accounting team. This is a high-impact, financial controller-style role with genuine ownership of accounting quality, financial controls and reporting across multiple regional entities.
We are looking for someone who can go beyond reporting the numbers - someone who can challenge them, identify risks, resolve complex accounting matters and drive improvements across the region.
About the Role
The Accounting Manager – Regional Accounting will play a key role within Group Finance, taking ownership of accounting integrity, financial reporting and controllership across AKI's regional operations. Working closely with regional finance teams, you will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, strong balance sheet governance, compliance with IFRS and local statutory requirements, and consistent application of Group accounting policies. You will be expected to independently identify accounting issues, challenge financial information, resolve discrepancies and strengthen financial controls across multiple jurisdictions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes across assigned regional entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timely reporting.
- Review and challenge financial results, balance sheet reconciliations, provisions, accruals, intercompany balances and significant accounting judgements.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, local statutory reporting requirements and Group accounting policies.
- Lead regional statutory audits, manage external auditors, resolve technical accounting matters and drive timely financial statement sign-offs.
- Identify accounting and control weaknesses, implement corrective actions and improve the quality of regional financial reporting.
- Drive standardisation, process improvements and automation across regional accounting operations.
- Work closely with regional finance teams to understand business transactions, challenge accounting treatments and ensure appropriate financial controls.
- Lead, develop and manage a team of 3-5 Accountants, establishing clear accountability and high-performance standards.
The role reports to the Senior Accounting Manager.
What You'll Bring
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting or controllership, including meaningful team management responsibility.
- Fully qualified CA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent - mandatory.
- Proven experience managing accounting and reporting across multiple legal entities, ideally across several countries in the Middle East.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting, general ledger accounting and complex accounting matters.
- Demonstrated ownership of month-end and year-end closing processes, including the ability to independently review and challenge financial results.
- Strong experience in balance sheet reconciliations, provisions, accruals, intercompany accounting, ageing analysis and financial control remediation.
- Proven ability to manage external audits, resolve audit issues and deliver statutory financial statements within agreed deadlines.
- Strong understanding of GL, AP, AR and fixed asset accounting - mandatory.
- Strong ERP experience, with Oracle highly preferred.
- Experience leading accounting teams and working effectively with finance stakeholders across different countries.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to challenge accounting treatments and resolve issues independently.
- A proactive, hands-on mindset with strong attention to detail, ownership and accountability.
Advantageous
- Big Four audit experience and/or a strong financial controllership background.
- Experience in a large, complex, multi-entity organisation, particularly within distribution, FMCG, healthcare, retail or logistics.
- Experience driving accounting transformation, process standardisation or automation.
