Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a Protection & Control Field Engineer to oversee end-to-end site execution of protection, conventional control, and monitoring & diagnostics projects in high-voltage substations. Job Description Summary

The Protection & Control Field Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end site execution of protection, conventional control, and monitoring & diagnostics (M&D) projects in high-voltage substations. This role encompasses installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex hardware and software systems. You will serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, utility owners, and construction firms, ensuring that all site activities are executed safely, profitably, and in accordance with contractual requirements and GE Vernova quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle on-site installation, testing, and commissioning (T&C) for protection relays, busbar protection, Conventional Control Systems (CCS), SCMS, and LCC equipment.


• Provide expert technical direction on OEM packaged products; interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLD drawings.


• Perform CT/VT adequacy checks, relay setting verification, IEC61850 signal mapping, and cybersecurity requirement and implementation.


• Plan, organize, and direct resources (labor, tools, materials).


• Manage project workloads to ensure a high billable ratio and adherence to budgetary constraints.


• Prepare accurate field service reports, maintain timesheets, manage red-line drawings, and coordinate responses to consultant/customer comments.


• Ensure full compliance with EHS guidelines and maintain consistent quality standards through rigorous testing and validation protocols.


• Act as the GE representative in technical meetings, provide training to customer personnel, and drive satisfaction through proactive communication.


• Able to handle the testing, panel integration, and internal validation at GEV facility.


• Representing GE before customer & consultants in technical discussions and workshop.


• Experienced in all protection relays software (GE and MiCOM), test kits, and Microsoft office.


• Pre-outage and installation planning; possibly recommending and administering policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering.


• Minimum 3 years of field experience in HV substation protection and control systems.


• Strong knowledge of protection and busbar philosophy and CCS.


• Proficiency with protection relay software, test kits (e.g., Omicron/Megger), and diagnostic tools.


• Ability to interpret and implement technical documentation (schematics, cable schedules, interpanel wiring files, Bill of Materials).


• Advanced computer literacy (MS Office Suite, Project Management software).


• Strong communication skills in English.


• This role requires 100% travel across the region.

Desired Characteristics

• Demonstrated expertise in GEV products (e.g., MiCOM, UR family relays, DGA900, MS3000, or similar).


• Strong knowledge of DCS, and SCMS/Cybersecurity implementation.


• PMP certification or formal project management training.


• Deep understanding of EHV/HV electrical network schemes and state-of-the-art substation automation technologies.


• Experience with ServiceMax or similar field service management software.


• Proven ability to work under pressure, take ownership of onsite deliverables, and manage cross-functional teams (including sub-contractors and draftsmen).


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.


• Strong communication skills in Arabic.
