Job Purpose
The Project Engineer is responsible for managing, coordinating, and following up on project technical matters from the consultant side, ensuring that the project is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, authority requirements, contract documents, quality standards, and the consultant's instructions. The role requires close coordination with the Client, Contractor, Sub-consultants, Authorities, and internal design disciplines to ensure smooth project progress, proper documentation, timely responses, and compliance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Coordination - Coordinate daily project activities between consultant, contractor, client, and relevant stakeholders; follow up on project progress, technical issues, pending approvals, and site requirements; ensure proper communication between architectural, structural, MEP, and other engineering disciplines; attend project meetings and prepare or review meeting minutes when required; follow up on action items and ensure timely closure.
- Technical Review and Follow-Up - Review contractor submissions including shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, RFIs, and technical proposals; coordinate with relevant discipline engineers for review and comments; ensure that all submissions comply with approved design drawings, specifications, authority requirements, and project standards; track pending technical issues and elevate critical matters to the Resident Engineer and Project Manager.
- Site Supervision Support - Monitor site works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards; support site inspections and coordinate with inspectors and discipline engineers; identify site discrepancies, non‑compliance, and construction issues; assist in issuing site instructions, NCRs, observations, and technical comments; ensure that corrective actions are properly followed up and closed.
- Authority and Statutory Compliance - Ensure project works are aligned with Municipality, Civil Defense, Developer, Utility Authorities, and other relevant authority requirements; coordinate with internal teams and contractors regarding authority comments, inspections, and required submissions; follow up on authority‑related pending items to avoid project delays.
- Quality Control and Documentation - Maintain proper records of project correspondence, approvals, submittals, RFIs, inspection requests, NCRs, and site instructions; ensure that project documentation is properly controlled and updated in coordination with the Document Controller; support the preparation of progress reports, technical reports, and project status updates; ensure that all project decisions and instructions are properly documented.
- Progress Monitoring - Monitor contractor progress against the approved program of works; identify delays, constraints, and risks affecting project delivery; report progress concerns to the Resident Engineer and Project Manager; assist in reviewing contractor progress reports and highlighting discrepancies.
- Client and Contractor Communication - Maintain professional communication with the Client, Contractor, and project stakeholders; respond to technical queries in coordination with the relevant discipline engineers; ensure that all communication reflects the consultant’s professional position and protects the company’s interests; avoid giving verbal approvals or instructions without proper documentation and authority.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience, preferably with engineering consultants. UAE experience is preferred.
- Good knowledge of construction procedures, authority requirements, project documentation, and site coordination.
- Familiarity with Municipality.
