Production Operators are responsible for operating, monitoring, and tending production/manufacturing equipment to produce goods that meet quality, quantity, and safety standards. The role involves running machines according to standard operating procedures, performing basic quality checks, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work area on the production floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor assigned production machines/equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production schedules.
- Load raw materials/components into machines and unload finished or in-process product as required.
- Monitor machine performance and product output, making basic adjustments within authorized limits and escalating abnormalities to the Supervisor or Maintenance team.
- Perform in-process quality checks (visual inspection, dimensional checks, weight checks, etc.) and record results as per quality control procedures.
- Identify and segregate non-conforming or defective products, and report quality issues promptly.
- Follow standard work instructions, production plans, and batch/job cards accurately, including correct recording of production data (quantities, downtime, scrap, etc.).
- Perform routine operator-level maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, basic checks) and report equipment faults to Maintenance in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in line with 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including correct use of PPE and machine safety guards/lockout-tagout procedures where applicable.
- Support changeovers, line clearances, and start-up/shutdown procedures as directed.
- Work collaboratively with team members and shift supervisors to meet daily/weekly production targets.
- Participate in training, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement (Kaizen/5S) initiatives.
Qualifications, Experience, & Skills
- Basic education; no specific diploma or certificate required.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience as a machine/production operator in a manufacturing environment (industry-specific experience is an advantage, e.g., plastics, metal fabrication, packaging, food processing, etc.).
- Basic understanding of production processes, quality control, and manufacturing safety practices.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, production schedules, and basic technical drawings/specifications.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends as per the production schedule.
