Role Summary
Principal Instrumentation Designer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a senior Oil and Energy design role focused on instrumentation design, offshore project execution, 3D model development, engineering coordination, and discipline leadership for complex EPCI projects.

Salary: 28,000‑42,000 AED/month (estimated).
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop conceptual, FEED, study, and detailed instrumentation design drawings with high technical quality and constructability.
- Develop 3D instrumentation models and ensure layouts are clash‑free with other engineering disciplines.
- Deliver design outputs in accordance with project specifications, MDR requirements, project procedures, schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
- Set work priorities, organize design activities, and manage time effectively to meet project milestones.
- Lead small or medium instrumentation design teams when assigned as Lead Designer.
- Coordinate instrumentation design activities with engineering, project management, vendors, subcontractors, certifying authorities, auditors, and customer representatives.
- Plan, organize, and direct discipline execution across scope, deliverables, manpower resources, schedule, and discipline interfaces.
- Maintain responsibility for design progress, productivity, corrective actions, and timely completion of assigned deliverables.
- Review contract scope, specifications, project schedules, and inter‑discipline requirements to identify concerns early and support effective resolution.
- Identify scope changes and raise change notifications with supporting documentation, estimates, and variation order input when required.
- Interface with other disciplines to obtain design inputs, resolve clashes, and ensure clear deliverable alignment.
- Document substantive project communications, including decisions and assigned actions, and share them with relevant discipline leadership.
- Assist in preparing estimates for proposals and job scope changes, including execution statements, schedules, manhour requirements, software needs, and project‑specific requirements.
- Raise technical queries to clarify missing information, work scope, procedures, specifications, standards, and operational requirements.
- Participate in finalizing deliverable lists, philosophies, design documentation, and functional integrity requirements.
- Review project and fabrication schedules in relation to construction sequence, milestones, and design scope.
- Attend kickoff meetings, design reviews, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, offshore surveys, and project coordination sessions as required.
- Research customer standards and prepare project‑specific design procedures and standards for approval.
- Set up, maintain, and archive discipline master design drawing files and document records.
- Prepare and review instrumentation deliverables including 3D models, layout drawings, instrument hook‑up details, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, panel drawings, console drawings, logic diagrams, shutdown hierarchy drawings, schematics, block diagrams, material schedules, and as‑built drawings.
- Develop conceptual offshore layouts using good engineering practice and progress them through detailed design.
- Review vendor drawings, vendor documents, and other discipline drawings to incorporate required data into instrumentation deliverables.
- Identify drawing or model holds where information is incomplete and maintain proper hold tracking with discipline leadership.
- Generate IDC design documentation and perform single discipline checks and inter‑discipline checks.
- Prepare, issue, and update material take‑offs, weight data take‑offs, and design registers.
- Support fabrication teams in resolving construction difficulties related to design issues, clashes, missing data, or installation constraints.
- Monitor design progress and maintain deliverables registers on an ongoing basis.
- Provide inputs for actual, planned, and forecast progress reporting, including productivity and schedule impact data.
- Participate in design reviews, audits, clash resolution meetings, and lessons learned activities.
- Guide less experienced designers on MDR procedures, design standards, calculations, worksheets, software, technical queries, and project expectations.
- Support discipline technical guideline development, global procedures, software standards, and departmental improvement initiatives.
- Travel to fabrication yards, construction sites, or offshore locations to support mechanical completion, hook‑up, or commissioning when required.
Ideal Profile
- High school graduate with a diploma in Civil Design, Electrical Design, Mechanical Design, drafting, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of design experience with a major contractor or consultant.
- At least 5 years of experience in oil and gas projects.
- Experience in at least one or two project assignments using E3D or S3D.
- Strong experience in offshore project execution and instrumentation design.
- Detailed knowledge of industry detailing standards, codes, design practices, and engineering documentation requirements.
- Strong understanding of 2D and 3D drafting systems, material control systems, and model‑based design workflows.
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, E3D, S3D, and related design tools.
- AutoLISP programming, 3D model creation, menu development, or macro compilation skills are advantageous.
- Capable of leading instrumentation design projects and coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces.
- Working knowledge of QA systems, project coordination, design execution, and document control processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate with engineers, designers, clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project leadership.
- Ability to review, guide, and approve instrumentation design deliverables within project requirements.
- Practical experience with design audits, model reviews, clash resolution, MTO preparation, and project reporting.
- Willingness to travel to fabrication yards, construction sites, or offshore locations when project support is required.
