Position Overview
Principal HVAC Engineer in Dubai, UAE for the Oil and Energy sector is a senior mechanical engineering role focused on HVAC design, FEED, detailed engineering, project execution, procurement support, vendor review, and discipline leadership. This opportunity is suited to an experienced mechanical HVAC specialist who can solve complex engineering challenges, lead design teams, support audits and reviews, and deliver safe, efficient, and technically compliant HVAC solutions for major energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed HVAC and mechanical engineering design in line with project design basis, specifications, codes, and standards.
- Prepare accurate design calculations, technical analyses, engineering reports, design procedures, and discipline documentation.
- Resolve complex HVAC and mechanical engineering issues using specialist knowledge and practical project judgment.
- Lead small or medium mechanical engineering teams when assigned as Lead Engineer.
- Manage discipline execution for assigned work areas, including scope, deliverables, schedule, workforce resources, progress, and productivity.
- Review project scope of work, specifications, fabrication schedule, construction sequence, milestones, and inter-discipline requirements.
- Interpret contractual requirements as they relate to mechanical and HVAC engineering execution.
- Identify scope changes, prepare supporting documentation, and raise change notifications or variation order support when required.
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines, planning, project management, procurement, document control, vendors, subcontractors, customers, auditors, and certifying authorities.
- Prepare bid proposal inputs, technical query reviews, execution statements, manhour estimates, software requirements, and project‑specific engineering inputs.
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering design basis documents, philosophies, specifications, reports, procedures, requisitions, and technical deliverables.
- Provide technical direction to designers working on HVAC and mechanical engineering deliverables.
- Support procurement by reviewing technical quotations, preparing queries, compiling bid tabulations, preparing purchase requisitions, and expediting vendor documents.
- Review vendor and subcontractor submittals to confirm compliance with project specifications and provide clear technical comments.
- Support design verification through single‑discipline checks, inter‑discipline checks, internal reviews, customer reviews, and third‑party technical audits.
- Provide technical support for fabrication queries, equipment inspection, testing, installation support, pre‑commissioning, and commissioning requirements.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing, HAZOP meetings, 3D model reviews, project kickoff meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, and site surveys.
- Update equipment lists, electrical load lists, P & IDs, weight reports, and project documentation based on vendor information.
- Check and approve mechanical equipment lists, spare parts lists, special tools lists, equipment datasheets, mechanical handling philosophy reports, noise reports, and lubrication schedules.
- Guide less experienced engineers on procedures, standards, design calculations, software, technical bid evaluations, requisitions, and technical queries.
- Capture lessons learned, support global procedures, maintain departmental technical guidelines, and assist with staff development and performance feedback.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 15-20 years of oil and gas engineering experience with a major contractor or consultant, preferably in HVAC and mechanical design.
- Strong experience in conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, EPC project execution, procurement support, and vendor coordination.
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC engineering, mechanical equipment specifications, equipment datasheets, technical standards, and project deliverables.
- Ability to lead mechanical engineering teams and manage discipline scope, schedules, manpower, deliverables, budgets, and progress.
- Strong understanding of project interfaces, design verification, engineering audits, fabrication support, commissioning support, and customer coordination.
- Able to solve technical problems independently and recommend practical, cost‑conscious, and safe engineering solutions.
- Good knowledge of HSE, quality systems, project controls, technical documentation, and engineering work processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and influence project decisions.
- Able to coordinate effectively with engineering, procurement, planning, project management, vendors, subcontractors, customers, and external agencies.
- Flexible to support site surveys, project needs, workload changes, and evolving engineering software or work methods.
