Role Context The Primary ELL Teacher will help multilingual learners and students with additional learning needs overcome barriers that can restrict their access to classroom learning. The position combines language development with inclusive education, requiring targeted support that strengthens communication, curriculum access, confidence and independence. Rather than working separately from mainstream teaching, the specialist will collaborate closely with Primary classroom teachers, ELL colleagues, Inclusion professionals and pastoral teams. Assessment findings and classroom observations will be translated into practical interventions and personalised strategies that enable students to participate more successfully across the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Primary students who require additional assistance with English language acquisition, learning needs or both.
  • Plan and deliver targeted individual, small-group and in-class interventions according to identified student needs.
  • Assess English language proficiency and learning barriers using appropriate observations, assessment information and classroom evidence.
  • Develop students ' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills so they can access learning more confidently across subject areas.
  • Create personalised learning strategies and support plans with clear and achievable development targets.
  • Monitor student progress systematically and evaluate whether interventions are producing the intended outcomes.
  • Adjust intervention methods, frequency and learning resources in response to progress evidence.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to differentiate lessons, resources, instructions and learning activities.
  • Provide practical strategies that help teachers support multilingual learners within mainstream classrooms.
  • Assist colleagues in adapting learning for students with additional educational needs.
  • Use scaffolding, modelling, visual resources, structured vocabulary development and other appropriate language-support techniques.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage young learners to communicate, participate and take increasing responsibility for their learning.
  • Support students in developing confidence, independence and a secure sense of belonging within the school community.
  • Communicate constructively with parents regarding student development, interventions and progress.
  • Coordinate with Inclusion, ELL, pastoral and Primary teaching teams to maintain consistent approaches to student support.
  • Maintain appropriate records of assessments, interventions, support strategies and student outcomes.
  • Contribute to school practices that recognise and value linguistic, cultural and learning diversity.
  • Uphold safeguarding, student wellbeing and professional responsibilities throughout all support activities.
Ideal Profile
  • Recognised Primary teaching qualification such as a B.Ed, PGCE, State Teaching Licence or equivalent.
  • Relevant bachelor 's degree meeting UAE teacher approval requirements.
  • Successful experience teaching or supporting children within a Primary or Elementary setting.
  • Practical experience supporting English Language Learners, English as an Additional Language students or learners with additional educational needs.
  • Qualification or professional development in ELL, EAL, SEND, Inclusion or Special Education is highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of English language acquisition and the developmental needs of young multilingual learners.
  • Experience designing and delivering targeted learning interventions.
  • Sound knowledge of differentiated instruction, scaffolding and personalised learning.
  • Ability to identify barriers to curriculum access and develop practical strategies for addressing them.
  • Patient, adaptable and nurturing approach to working with children requiring additional support.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with teachers, specialists and parents.
  • Experience within a diverse multilingual international school community is advantageous.
  • Previous international school or UAE education experience is beneficial but not essential.
