Job summary

NMC is seeking a pharmacist to join our hospital pharmacy in Abu Dhabi. You will dispense medications for inpatients per prescriptions, review orders for accuracy, and provide patient counseling on dispensed medicines.

Key duties include resolving prescription issues with physicians, supervising repackaging and documentation, and handling drug inquiries from clinicians and patients while adhering to DHA and Joint Commission International guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
  • Manage their own professional re-licensure.
  • Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
  • Be willing to work across departments when necessary.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications to inpatient as per prescription.
  • Review and interpret each prescription/ medication order before dispensing to ascertain correctness of strength, dose instructions and dosage form.
  • Provide patient information concerning the dispensed medications.
  • Clarify prescription abnormalities with the prescribing physician; escalate to chief pharmacist if unresolved.
  • Supervise repackaging, labeling and documentation of medications issued to other departments.
  • Answer drug-related inquiries from doctors, nurses and customers; refer to chief pharmacist if uncertain.
  • Assist in training of new pharmacist and staff as directed by chief pharmacist.
  • Perform specialty pharmacy activities as delegated and trained.
  • Maintain medicine stock, monitor near expiry medicines, and update controlled medicine register daily.
  • Follow DHA regulations & Joint Commission International norms while treating patients and during professional duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Dispense medications to inpatient as per prescription.
  • Reviews and interprets each prescription/ medication order before dispensing to ascertain correctness of strength, dose instructions and dosage form.
  • Patient counseling- Provides appropriate patient information concerning the dispensed medications.
  • Clarify any prescription abnormality with the prescribing physician. Any unresolved problems are referred to chief pharmacist.
  • Supervise the repackaging, labeling and documentation of medications issued to other departments.
  • Answers drug related inquiries received from doctors, nurses and customers. Those inquiries which cannot be answered with certainty are to be referred to the chief pharmacist.
  • Assists in the training of new pharmacist and pharmacist staff as per the direction of the chief pharmacist.
  • Performs specialty pharmacy activities, as delegated and trained.
  • Responsible for medicine’s stock, near expiry medicines monitoring & updating controlled medicine register on daily wise.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties, as directed by the chief pharmacist.
  • To follow appropriate international guidelines, DHA regulations & Joint Commission International norms while treating or managing patients as well as while discharging their professional duties.
