Summary

This position is affiliated with Cincinnati’s Children’s hospital in the USA. The Consultant in Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery provides expert surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents with heart conditions. Duties include diagnose, plan, and perform complex cardiovascular procedures and guide multidisciplinary teams and support junior staff through clinical teaching and case discussions.

Education/Qualification
  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
      • USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT), Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland,
    • Sub‑Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub‑specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy
    • Sub‑Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub‑specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
License
  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat pediatric patients with congenital or acquired heart conditions.
  • Perform complex cardiac surgeries on infants and children.
  • Conduct pre‑operative assessments and manage post‑operative care, follow‑up and discharge planning.
  • Lead ward rounds, review inpatient and outpatient cases, reassess patients regularly.
  • Review diagnostic investigations, interpret results and modify treatment plans as needed.
  • Accept referrals from emergency, other departments, primary care or other hospitals and manage appropriate cases.
  • Work closely with pediatric cardiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, nursing and support staff to coordinate multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Communicate clearly with patients’ families about diagnoses, surgical options, risks, expected outcomes and post‑op care.
  • Promote a team‑based, collaborative approach to patient care.
  • Oversee and supervise junior medical staff, residents or fellows; assume responsibility for their clinical work.
  • Provide mentorship and clinical teaching to junior staff.
  • Participate in performance management processes like peer review and utilization reviews.
  • Assist in recruitment of new medical staff when needed.
  • Comply with hospital policies, admission/discharge protocols, documentation standards, informed consent, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement, audits, safety reporting, and response to incidents.
