Job Overview: Senior pediatric cardiac surgeon with advanced expertise in congenital heart disease, neonatal cardiac procedures, redo cardiac surgery, pediatric heart transplantation, ECMO, and mechanical circulatory support. The selected physician will provide clinical services for a leading tertiary pediatric cardiac center, primarily based in Abu Dhabi, while the main hiring location remains in Dubai. This role supports complex surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents within a highly specialized multidisciplinary cardiac program.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex pediatric cardiac surgeries, including congenital heart defect repairs, redo cardiac surgeries, high‑risk neonatal procedures, and advanced reconstructive operations.
- Lead and participate in pediatric heart transplantation programs, including donor evaluation, recipient selection, operative transplantation, and postoperative surgical management.
- Provide preoperative and postoperative surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents with complex cardiac conditions.
- Manage critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in close collaboration with ICU, cardiology, anesthesia, perfusion, transplant coordination, nursing, and allied health teams.
- Participate in multidisciplinary cardiac conferences, transplant review meetings, surgical planning sessions, morbidity reviews, and complex case discussions.
- Support advanced cardiac care pathways involving ECMO, ventricular assist devices, and other mechanical circulatory support options when clinically required.
- Ensure high standards of surgical safety, infection control, perioperative care, consent documentation, and patient safety throughout the surgical journey.
- Supervise and mentor junior surgeons, fellows, surgical trainees, residents, and operating room team members.
- Contribute to clinical research, audits, publications, academic activity, and continuous improvement in pediatric cardiac surgery.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, operative reports, transplant records, consent notes, progress updates, and follow‑up plans in line with hospital standards and DOH Abu Dhabi expectations where applicable.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, cardiac surgical pathway development, transplant protocol review, and pediatric cardiac program growth.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, transplant planning, risks, recovery expectations, and long‑term outcomes.
- Support a high‑acuity tertiary cardiac environment through evidence‑based practice, multidisciplinary teamwork, and consistent surgical excellence.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree recognized by relevant UAE healthcare authorities.
- Board certification or fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery with subspecialty training in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.
- Additional advanced training or strong hands‑on experience in pediatric heart transplantation is mandatory.
- Valid DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Cardiac Surgery is preferred for Abu Dhabi‑based clinical service.
- Minimum 7–10 years of post‑fellowship experience in pediatric cardiac surgery, including participation in cardiac transplant programs.
- Strong expertise in neonatal cardiac surgery, complex congenital heart surgery, redo operations, high‑risk pediatric cardiac procedures, and perioperative cardiac care.
- Experience with ECMO and advanced mechanical circulatory support is highly valuable.
- Exposure to high‑volume pediatric cardiac transplant centers is strongly preferred.
- Academic involvement, research activity, publications, teaching experience, or cardiac program development background is an advantage.
- Excellent surgical judgment, leadership, communication, documentation, family counselling, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high‑acuity tertiary care environment with complex pediatric cardiac cases.
