Job summary

Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation in Dubai is seeking an experienced Structural Inspector to verify construction works comply with approved drawings, codes and standards. You will conduct inspections before concrete pours and during structural steel works, prepare detailed reports, and coordinate with consultants, contractors and regulatory authorities.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, at least six years of building and construction inspection experience

About Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation:

The Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) was officially established in 2001, under the authority of the Dubai Government. There are a number of entities and institutions operating under its umbrella, including Port Rashid, Jebel Ali Port, Al Hamriya Port, which are managed by Dubai Ports Authority, in addition to the Department of Planning and Development - Trakhees, the Dubai Maritime Authority and the Office of the Marine Agency for Wooden Dhows, as well as the investment arm and security arm of the corporation, represented by Investment Department and Security Department.

STRUCTURAL INSPECTION

• Review and verify that permitted projects and construction works comply with approved drawings, structural requirements, applicable regulations and technical standards. Conduct structural inspections prior to concrete pouring and before the closure of structural steel works.
• Review quality and technical documentation, and inspect and test relevant aspects of construction practices and materials, including civil and structural works, to ensure that projects within Trakhees’ regulatory jurisdiction comply with applicable local regulations, international standards, approved specifications and quality requirements.
• Conduct structural inspections at various stages of construction, from initial site inspections prior to concrete works through to final completion, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, plans and technical specifications.
• Provide technical guidance to construction teams on applicable safety requirements, building codes, structural standards and regulatory requirements to support safe and compliant construction practices.
• Prepare inspection reports confirming the compliance status of projects, identify and document non-compliant works, initiate appropriate corrective actions and conduct follow-up inspections upon notification that corrective works have been completed by the consultant.
• Conduct structural inspections of buildings within Trakhees’ jurisdiction to identify and address violations relating to building permits, approved uses and structural works, including structures that may adversely affect public safety or the overall appearance of the area.
• Issue violation notices and penalties for non-compliant structural works in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures, ensuring accurate and timely enforcement.
• Monitor and track structural violation notices and penalties, ensuring that required corrective actions are completed and cases are resolved in accordance with established regulations and procedures.
• Review and verify applications and supporting documentation submitted by consultants and contractors for the issuance of Completion Certificates.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive inspection records and reports, including observations, supporting evidence, technical analysis, findings and recommendations.
• Coordinate with relevant government authorities, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and resolution of structural and regulatory matters.

EXPERIENCE

Required (Minimum Experience): A minimum of six years’ experience in building and construction inspection, including at least two years’ relevant experience in the UAE.

Preferred: Experience in structural inspection, including the inspection of civil and structural works and assessment of compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications and applicable regulations.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required (Minimum Qualification): A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Preferred: Relevant industry-recognised professional certifications in structural, civil or construction inspection.
