Job description

We are currently inviting expressions of interest from MEP graduates and freshers who are currently based in the UAE and interested in developing a career in Quantity Surveying.

Who we are?

ALEC Engineering and Contracting L.L.C. (ALEC), part of ICD, is a leading GCC construction company known for delivering complex, high-profile projects. With 20+ years of experience, ALEC builds across sectors including airports, hospitality, retail, and high-rises

In the UAE, ALEC has delivered many of the nation’s most iconic developments, operating as a fully integrated contractor through specialist business units that provide end-to-end construction solutions.

ALEC Building forms the structural heart of the Group, delivering high-value construction projects from foundation to finish. Whether commercial towers or luxury hospitality developments, we build safely, collaboratively, and with precision, laying the groundwork for long-term success.

Why Join Us?

You will be trained to support the pre-contract commercial team by delivering accurate quantity take-offs, preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and assisting with tendering activities across a wide range of landmark construction projects. Working alongside experienced estimators, package managers, and senior quantity surveyors, you will gain exposure to every stage of the tender process, from concept design through to issue-for-construction documentation, while developing strong technical and commercial expertise.

Your Role
  • Learn and develop skills in preparing quantity take-offs and measurements from drawings, specifications, reports, BIM models, and tender documentation across different stages of design and construction.
  • Receive training and practical exposure to measuring various construction elements, including:
  • Structural steel
  • External works and landscaping
  • Earthworks and site works
  • Assist with the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs) in accordance with POMI and other recognised standards of measurement, with guidance from experienced Quantity Surveyors.
  • Learn how to review tender documentation and ensure that BOQs and measured quantities reflect the latest drawings, specifications, and project information.
  • Develop the ability to review drawings and specifications, identify missing information or discrepancies, and learn how to raise Requests for Information (RFIs) when required.
  • Support value engineering exercises by assisting with measurements of alternative design solutions and understanding their impact on quantities and costs.
  • Learn how to update measured quantities following revised drawings, addenda, and RFI responses while working towards meeting tender submission deadlines.
  • Work closely with Estimators, Package Managers, Team Leaders, and Quantity Surveyors to understand project scope, improve measurement accuracy, and ensure all relevant items are captured.
  • Assist in preparing measurement assumptions, tender qualifications, and Schedules of Departures under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Gain exposure to quantity reconciliation exercises with client and consultant Quantity Surveyors where required.
  • Develop an understanding of post-award measurement, variations, and quantity updates as projects progress.
  • Maintain accurate and organised measurement records and learn to follow company procedures, quality standards, and best practices.
  • Continuously develop your knowledge of quantity surveying, construction measurement, drawings, specifications, BIM, and commercial processes through structured on-the-job training and guidance from experienced professionals.
What We're looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 0–2 years of experience in quantity surveying, quantity take-offs, or construction measurement, preferably within building or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, sections, elevations, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with standard methods of measurement such as POMI, CESMM, NRM 1 & 2, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of BOQ preparation and quantity measurement principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, PlanSwift, CAD Measure, or similar quantity take-off software.
  • Exposure to BIM platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, or other 3D modelling software is an advantage.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical construction documentation accurately.
We're looking for someone who demonstrates:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related MEP discipline; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
