Job summary

Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated in Abu Dhabi, on-site, seeks a seasoned MEP Quantity Surveyor to manage all cost aspects of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works across construction and fit-out projects.

You will lead cost planning, prepare budgets, review designs, tender documents, and negotiate with subcontractors while monitoring variations and final accounts to protect project value and performance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor with focus on MEP systems.
• Experience in cost planning for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations.
• Familiarity with tender analysis, contract negotiation and post-contract administration.
• MRICS would be advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for MEP systems including HVAC, electrical, fire protection, plumbing, and drainage.
• Review MEP design drawings and specifications to identify cost implications; prepare BOQs and tender documents.
• Analyze and evaluate MEP subcontractor and supplier quotations; negotiate contracts.
• Administer MEP contracts and monitor costs across construction phases; value engineering where possible.

Role Purpose

The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all cost aspects of MEP services within construction and fit-out projects. This role involves cost planning, procurement, contract administration, and cost control for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the project lifecycle.

What this job involves

• Cost Management & Planning
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for MEP systems including HVAC, electrical installations, fire protection, plumbing, and drainage systems
  • Conduct feasibility studies and life cycle costing for MEP installations
  • Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize MEP system costs without compromising performance
  • Develop and maintain cost databases for MEP materials, equipment, and installation rates
• Pre-Contract Services
  • Review MEP design drawings and specifications to identify cost implications
  • Prepare bills of quantities and tender documentation for MEP packages
  • Analyze and evaluate MEP subcontractor and supplier quotations
  • Conduct tender analysis and provide procurement recommendations
  • Negotiate contracts with MEP contractors and suppliers
• Post-Contract Services
  • Administer MEP contracts and ensure compliance with terms and conditions
  • Monitor and control MEP costs throughout construction phases
  • Assess and value MEP variations and change orders
  • Process interim payment applications and final accounts for MEP contractors
  • Conduct site measurements and verification of completed MEP works
• Project Coordination
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, main contractors, and MEP specialists
  • Attend site meetings and provide cost-related updates on MEP installations
  • Review MEP shop drawings and submittals from a cost perspective
  • Identify and manage commercial risks related to MEP works
  • Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts for MEP elements

Desired skills and experience for this

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor with specific focus on MEP systems
• Proven experience in managing costs for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations
• Experience across various project types (commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, hospitality)
• Familiarity with standard forms of contract (FIDIC, JCT, NEC, local variants)
• MRICS would be advantageous but not essential. Experience pre and post contract in project / programme delivery teams.
