Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Specialist Material Engineer to review and evaluate construction materials for major infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi. The role focuses on ensuring technical compliance with project specifications and standards across concrete, steel, asphalt, aggregates, and more.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s in Materials or Civil Engineering with UAE infrastructure experience, strong testing knowledge, and the ability to coordinate with design and QA/QC teams on-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in materials engineering for major infrastructure and bridge projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, testing methods, specifications, and applicable standards.
• Experience reviewing concrete, reinforcement steel, structural steel, asphalt, aggregates, geosynthetics, waterproofing, pipes, and precast materials.
• Good understanding of material testing, durability, performance, and acceptance criteria.
• Experience evaluating alternative materials, technical submissions, laboratory results, and material-related non-conformities.
• UAE experience on major infrastructure projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate material submittals, technical data sheets, manufacturer documentation, certificates, and laboratory test reports.
• Assess material compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, applicable standards, and contract requirements.
• Review materials for infrastructure and bridge works, including concrete, reinforcement steel, structural steel, aggregates, asphalt, pipes, precast elements, and waterproofing.
• Evaluate proposed alternative materials and substitutions for technical suitability and compliance.
• Review concrete mix designs, reinforcement specifications, asphalt mix designs, and other material-related submissions.
• Coordinate with design, QA/QC, site supervision, Contractor and testing labs to resolve material issues.
• Participate in material inspections and technical meetings as required.
• Monitor material performance and investigate material-related defects or failures.
