Qualifications

Job description

The Material Engineer is responsible for preparing, coordinating, tracking, and managing material-related submissions and approvals for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, applicable standards, and consultant requirements.

The role supports project teams by managing material submittals, material sample submissions, material testing requirements, compliance documentation, and approval processes while coordinating with suppliers, procurement teams, consultants, laboratories, and internal stakeholders.

Through effective material engineering management and coordination, the Material Engineer contributes to timely material approvals, successful procurement activities, specification compliance, and efficient project execution across landscaping, irrigation, hardscape, softscape, infrastructure, and maintenance projects.

Roles, Responsibilities, Duties
Material Submittal Preparation & Management:
  • Prepare and submit Material Submittals in accordance with project specifications, contract requirements, approved vendor lists, and consultant requirements.
  • Review technical data sheets, product specifications, compliance statements, material certificates, warranties, and supporting documentation prior to submission.
  • Ensure all submissions are complete, accurate, and comply with project requirements before submission to consultants and clients.
  • Monitor material approval status and follow up on pending approvals.
  • Address consultant comments and coordinate preparation of revised submissions as required.
  • Maintain submission schedules and ensure material approvals are obtained in accordance with project timelines.
  • Coordinate preparation and submission of material samples, mock-ups, and demonstration samples for consultant and client approval.
  • Ensure submitted samples comply with approved specifications and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and procurement teams to obtain required samples.
  • Monitor sample approval status and facilitate closure of comments and observations.
  • Maintain records of approved material samples and related documentation.
  • Coordinate material testing activities in accordance with project specifications, consultant requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Arrange laboratory testing and submission of material testing requests.
  • Monitor testing schedules and ensure timely completion of required tests.
  • Review material test reports and laboratory certificates prior to submission.
  • Coordinate with laboratories, consultants, and project teams regarding testing requirements and results.
  • Maintain testing records and ensure all required approvals are properly documented.
Technical Review & Compliance Verification:
  • Verify compliance of proposed materials with project specifications, approved drawings, standards, and authority requirements.
  • Review supplier documentation including technical data sheets, certificates of compliance, environmental declarations, and manufacturer certifications.
  • Assist in evaluating alternative material proposals and value engineering submissions.
  • Support resolution of material-related consultant comments and technical queries.
  • Ensure all materials comply with project quality requirements and contractual obligations.
Coordination with Procurement, Suppliers & Project Teams:
  • Coordinate with Procurement Department regarding material requirements, supplier documentation, and approval status.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain technical documents, certifications, and supporting information.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC Engineers, Project Managers, Site Engineers, and consultants regarding material approvals and project requirements.
  • Support project teams in identifying approved materials and resolving material-related concerns.
  • Participate in technical meetings and coordination discussions related to material approvals and procurement activities.
  • Maintain material approval logs, submission registers, sample approval trackers, and testing records.
  • Monitor approval status and identify potential delays affecting procurement and project schedules.
  • Maintain centralized records of approved materials and consultant approvals.
  • Support development and maintenance of material databases and approved material libraries.
  • Ensure proper filing and document control of all material-related records.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly material engineering reports.
  • Monitor material approval progress and report outstanding issues.
  • Maintain records of consultant comments, approval status, testing activities, and sample approvals.
  • Support preparation of management reports and performance summaries.
  • Ensure all material documentation is properly controlled and readily available for project use.
  • Support implementation of standardized material engineering procedures, templates, and workflows.
  • Assist in improving material approval processes and submission quality.
  • Contribute to development of material databases, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving approval turnaround times and operational efficiency.
  • Promote continuous improvement within material engineering activities.
Education & Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Landscape Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with material approval procedures, construction materials, landscaping materials, irrigation systems, and project specifications.
  • Knowledge of UAE municipal requirements, consultant approval procedures, and material testing requirements is preferred.

Professional certifications related to material engineering, QA/QC, or quality management are advantageous.

Industry Experience (No. of years):
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in material engineering, QA/QC, construction materials management, landscaping, irrigation, infrastructure, or related industries.
Position/functional experience (No. of years):
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience involving material submittals, sample submissions, material testing coordination, compliance documentation, and consultant approvals.
