Job summary

Gulf Contracting & Landscaping (GCL) in Dubai is seeking an experienced Material Engineer to oversee construction materials, ensure compliance with project specs, international standards, and client requirements. You will manage approvals, testing and supplier coordination to keep material flows on track.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/materials engineering or related field.
  • 5–8+ years of UAE building construction material engineering experience.
  • Experience on high-rise, commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, or industrial projects.
  • UAE driving license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review project specs, drawings and contract requirements related to construction materials.
  • Prepare and submit submittals, technical data sheets and samples for approval.
  • Coordinate with procurement, suppliers and subcontractors for timely delivery of materials.
  • Evaluate and approve material sources and suppliers per project specs.
  • Monitor material testing through approved labs and ensure standards compliance.
  • Review test reports and maintain approvals/inspections records.
  • Conduct factory visits and supplier audits as needed.
  • Resolve material-related issues and provide engineering recommendations.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC and site engineers to ensure only approved materials are used.
  • Monitor inventory of critical materials and identify supply risks.
  • Ensure compliance with Dubai Municipality, DDA, Trakhees and other regulations.
  • Prepare material compliance reports and support handover documentation.
  • Participate in value engineering to optimize material selection while maintaining quality and cost.

Job description

The Material Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all construction materials used on building projects comply with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements. The role involves material approval, supplier coordination, testing, quality assurance, and supporting site teams to ensure timely availability of approved materials while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements related to construction materials.
  • Prepare and submit material submittals, technical data sheets, and samples for consultant/client approval.
  • Coordinate with procurement, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of approved materials.
  • Evaluate and approve material sources and suppliers in compliance with project specifications.
  • Monitor material testing activities through approved laboratories and ensure compliance with ASTM, BS, ACI, EN, and local authority standards.
  • Review material test reports and maintain complete records of approvals and inspections.
  • Conduct factory visits and supplier audits when required.
  • Resolve material-related technical issues and provide engineering recommendations.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC and site engineers to ensure only approved materials are used.
  • Monitor inventory of critical materials and identify potential supply risks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience as a Material Engineer on building construction projects in the UAE.
  • Experience with high-rise residential, commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, or industrial projects.
  • UAE driving license is preferred.
