Job summary

AKIJ Shipping Line Ltd. is a global dry bulk trading and shipping company with hubs in Dhaka, Singapore and Dubai.

We seek a senior trading professional to lead the dry bulk trading desk, source cargoes across the Middle East, Africa, the CIS and South Asia, negotiate terms, manage economics and P&L, and coordinate with Chartering and Finance to optimize margins. Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or Shipping and Maritime Studies.
• An MBA or a commodity trading certification is an advantage.
• At least 8 years in bulk commodity trading, shipping or supply chain with supervisory exposure.
• Experience with UAE/MEA commodity markets and counterparty management.

Responsibilities

• Build and execute the trading plan for dry bulk commodities, aligned with annual targets.
• Source cargoes from suppliers across the Middle East, Africa, CIS and South Asia.
• Negotiate purchase and sales contracts, pricing and delivery terms (FOB, CFR, CIF).
• Supply Akij Shipping businesses and third-party buyers with commodities at landed cost.
• Prepare deal economics, landed-cost calculations and P&L reports for each trade.
• Coordinate with Chartering to match cargoes with vessels and optimize freight cost.
• Manage trade finance with banks and monitor cash flow per trade.
• Assess counterparty risk, apply hedging and ensure UAE regulations and KYC compliance.

Established on September 9, 2010, the company specializes in dry bulk cargo transportation and operates as both a vessel owner and operator, supported by an experienced team and an in-house chartering and trading desk.

By managing both the commercial and technical operations of its fleet, the company delivers reliable, safe, flexible, and innovative freight solutions to clients in international markets and across Bangladesh.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Build and execute the trading plan for dry bulk commodities, aligned with annual revenue and margin targets.
• Source cargoes from suppliers, producers and traders across the Middle East, Africa, the CIS and South Asia.
• Negotiate purchase and sales contracts, pricing, payment terms and delivery terms (FOB, CFR, CIF) to secure target margins.
• Supply Akij Shipping businesses and third-party buyers with commodities at competitive landed cost.
• Analyze commodity prices, freight rates and supply-demand trends, and recommend trading positions to the Trading Head.
• Prepare deal economics, landed-cost calculations and profit-and-loss (P&L) reports for every trade.
• Coordinate with the Chartering team to match cargoes with vessels and optimize freight cost and vessel employment.
• Manage trade finance with banks and Finance, including letters of credit, payment tracking and cash flow per trade.
• Assess counterparty, credit and price risk, and apply hedging and approval limits before every deal.
• Ensure contracts and trades meet UAE regulations, sanctions and trade compliance, KYC, and company policy.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, buyers, brokers, banks, surveyors and port agents.
• Lead and coach the trading team, and report pipeline, performance and market insights to management each month.

Educational Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or Shipping and Maritime Studies.
• An MBA or a commodity trading certification is an advantage.

Experience

• At least 8 years in bulk commodity trading, shipping or supply chain, including 3 or more years in a supervisory role.
• Proven record of concluding commodity deals and managing counterparties in the UAE or the wider Middle East market.
• Experience with chartering coordination and trade finance instruments is preferred.
