Legal Counsel, Energy Sector
We have partnered with a leading energy company on the appointment of a Legal Counsel to join its legal team, supporting the business across a broad range of corporate, commercial, contractual, regulatory and contentious matters.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced lawyer to move into a varied, business-facing role within a major industrial organisation. The position will be based in Abu Dhabi.
So why this role in particular?
- Broad legal exposure – advise on corporate, commercial, contractual, employment, regulatory and contentious matters.
- Genuine business engagement – work directly with management and operational stakeholders on matters carrying legal and commercial significance.
- Varied and practical work – handle contracts, tenders, licensing applications, litigation and legislative developments.
- External stakeholder exposure – engage with government departments, licensing authorities, external contractors and law firms.
- Opportunity to influence – help strengthen legal processes, records management and internal legal resources.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing practical legal advice to senior and line management on matters with legal, regulatory and commercial implications.
- Reviewing corporate and commercial contracts, tender documentation, bidders’ qualifications, bank guarantees, performance bonds and insurance policies.
- Supporting the management of external litigation and claims, including employment-related matters and cases involving local courts or authorities.
- Monitoring relevant UAE and Abu Dhabi legislative developments and advising the business on applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Managing relationships with government bodies, licensing authorities and external counsel, while supporting legal documentation, records and reporting.
Who we’re looking for
- A qualified lawyer with a bachelor’s degree in law or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
- At least six years’ legal practice and advisory experience, ideally gained within a large industrial organisation or the oil and gas sector.
- Strong knowledge of corporate and commercial law, contract law and labour law.
- A thorough understanding of UAE and Abu Dhabi legal requirements and procedures affecting corporate organisations.
- Full professional proficiency in English, with strong interpersonal and influencing skills; Arabic language capability would be advantageous.
This should particularly appeal to a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys variety and wants to work closely with the business while handling a combination of advisory, contractual, regulatory and contentious matters within the energy sector.
