Learning Resource Coordinator - Library Services in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is an Education Management opportunity for an organized and literacy‑focused professional who can manage library resources, support student reading development, and coordinate learning resource systems at Al Danah Charter School. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong library administration skills, confidence using digital cataloguing platforms, and a genuine commitment to helping students become independent readers, researchers, and lifelong learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Catalogue all library resources into the DESTINY automated library system using the Dewey classification system.
  • Label, cover, process, and prepare books and learning materials so they are shelf‑ready and accessible for students and staff.
  • Maintain accurate library records for pupils, teachers, borrowing activity, returned books, overdue items, lost books, damaged books, and stock movement.
  • Sign books in and out, re‑shelve returned resources, and keep the library collection organised and easy to use.
  • Follow up overdue library resources with pupils and teachers and support procedures for lost or damaged books.
  • Repair damaged books where possible and remove unsuitable, outdated, damaged, or inappropriate stock using the CREW method.
  • Select and order new books suitable for each Key Stage, student interests, curriculum topics, and teacher resource needs.
  • Prepare annual library orders within budget while ensuring resources are age‑appropriate, curriculum‑aligned, and culturally suitable.
  • Attend curriculum compliance meetings to ensure library stock meets school requirements, Aldar policy, and culture sensitivity standards.
  • Scan and review books for compliance, removing or covering non‑compliant material in line with school and Aldar Education expectations.
  • Maintain an attractive, inclusive, and purposeful library environment that supports quiet reading, independent study, research, creativity, and relaxation.
  • Redesign and develop the library in line with the school vision, including future‑ready zones for research, creative learning, silent study, and relaxed reading.
  • Promote reading through engaging displays, themed activities, book recommendations, literacy campaigns, and whole‑school reading initiatives.
  • Keep up to date with new book releases and recommend suitable titles to students based on age, reading level, interest, and learning needs.
  • Develop and deliver library information literacy sessions to help pupils find books, magazines, online resources, and research materials independently.
  • Liaise with teachers to distribute topic‑related resources to classrooms and support curriculum learning across subjects.
  • Arrange author visits, book fairs, book club activities, house competitions, and wider literacy events that encourage a love of reading.
  • Manage the school book club process, including catalogue orders, consolidated school orders, and distribution of books when received.
  • Support EAL students with literacy development, reading confidence, and progress monitoring.
  • Support teachers by running literacy interventions, reading support groups, and library‑based learning activities.
  • Administer the Accelerated Reader database by entering classes, adding teaching staff, maintaining records, supporting teachers, and managing related resources.
  • Run and monitor Accelerated Reader and Star Reading quizzes, then provide teachers with useful reading data and progress information.
  • Facilitate CATS testing and support related student assessment processes where required.
  • Supervise student behaviour in the library during scheduled sessions and drop‑in use, ensuring safe and respectful use of resources and facilities.
  • Communicate with parents about practical ways to support reading at home and encourage stronger family engagement in literacy.
  • Attend training required for the role and apply updated library, literacy, safeguarding, and school procedures.
  • Comply with health and safety requirements, safeguarding expectations, school policies, Aldar Education standards, and relevant UAE education regulations.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Library Science, Education, Information Studies, English, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a school library, learning resource centre, literacy support, or education environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of library cataloguing, Dewey classification, book processing, stock control, and library database management.
  • Practical experience using DESTINY, Accelerated Reader, Star Reading, or similar school library and reading platforms is an advantage.
  • Interest in student literacy, independent reading, research skills, digital resources, and curriculum support.
  • Ability to select age‑appropriate and culturally suitable books for a diverse school community.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage stock, records, displays, orders, events, and daily library routines.
  • Confident communicator who can work with students, teachers, parents, school leaders, and external book suppliers.
  • Ability to support EAL learners and students who need additional literacy encouragement.
  • Creative approach to reading promotion, book displays, literacy events, and library space development.
  • Comfortable using school systems, spreadsheets, email, digital catalogues, assessment platforms, and resource management tools.
  • Positive and proactive attitude with the flexibility to support whole‑school literacy and curriculum initiatives.
  • Strong awareness of student supervision, behaviour expectations, safeguarding, and health and safety responsibilities.
