Role Context

The ITS Engineer will provide technical and site supervision support for Intelligent Transportation Systems installed across road and infrastructure developments. The position combines systems engineering, field inspection, network integration, testing, contractor coordination, and documentation to ensure that traffic technology is installed and commissioned in accordance with approved designs and contractual requirements. Working closely with the Resident Engineer, senior ITS specialists, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams, the engineer will help integrate roadside devices, communications networks, power infrastructure, central systems, and supporting civil works. Accurate testing and interface management will be essential to achieving reliable system performance and successful final handover.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support ITS design review, specification interpretation, installation supervision, system testing, integration, and commissioning.
  • Monitor deployment of CCTV cameras, RVDS, Bluetooth sensors, Dynamic Message Signs, RWIS, C-ITS equipment, LIDAR, AI detection systems, and related ITS components.
  • Verify that contractor activities comply with contract documents, approved drawings, technical requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Review Functional System Design Documents and provide technical recommendations to senior ITS specialists.
  • Review and recommend approval of shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, test plans, and other contractor technical documents.
  • Review ITS integration plans and system testing procedures before implementation.
  • Coordinate installation of fiber optic networks, communications equipment, electrical power systems, foundations, poles, gantries, and associated civil interfaces.
  • Conduct regular field inspections to verify installation quality, workmanship, safety, and compliance with approved designs.
  • Witness Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests for ITS equipment and systems.
  • Monitor prototype testing, communications testing, power testing, and system reliability verification.
  • Witness OTDR testing and assess fiber optic network performance before acceptance.
  • Verify network connectivity and correct interfacing between field devices and central ITS systems.
  • Coordinate ITS activities with civil, electrical, mechanical, telecommunications, and other project disciplines.
  • Work with contractors to resolve installation conflicts and system integration issues.
  • Support enforcement of site safety requirements and report construction safety violations requiring corrective action.
  • Attend ITS coordination, technical, testing, and progress meetings and prepare accurate meeting minutes.
  • Review technical correspondence and prepare draft responses for approval and signature.
  • Maintain photographic records before, during, and after construction to document site conditions and completed installations.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer with technical assessment of Variation Orders and Change Orders.
  • Review personnel, equipment, and material cost information associated with ITS variations where required.
  • Prepare punch lists following inspections and monitor completion of outstanding items.
  • Conduct final inspections before system acceptance and handover.
  • Review contractor as-built drawings and maintain accurate status records.
  • Support verification of operation and maintenance manuals, commissioning records, test certificates, and project closeout documentation.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering with ITS experience, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of 7 years of relevant engineering experience is required, preferably involving Intelligent Transportation Systems, road technology, telecommunications, traffic systems, or major infrastructure projects.

Experience with CAD, GIS, and relevant engineering design tools is required.

Candidates should also understand the structural requirements associated with ITS poles, gantries, cabinets, foundations, and roadside equipment.

Experience interpreting civil, electrical, and mechanical drawings is essential for effective multidisciplinary coordination.

Knowledge of virtual machine environments, Linux, and Windows systems is valuable.

Previous ITS or SCADA deployment experience within tunnels would be an advantage, while CCNA certification is also beneficial.
