Overview
The IGCSE Mathematics Teacher will plan, deliver, assess, and improve mathematics instruction for students preparing for IGCSE examinations. The role includes the development of curriculum, lesson planning, assessment design, and targeted academic support. The teacher will also undertake class teacher responsibilities, communicate with parents and students, and contribute to departmental planning and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver mathematics lessons aligned with IGCSE curriculum and examination requirements.
- Prepare students for internal assessments, mock examinations, and final IGCSE examinations.
- Develop annual schemes of work, assessment plans, daily lesson plans, and weekly teaching schedules.
- Prepare learning materials, revision resources, practice questions, and examination‑focused activities.
- Teach algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability, number concepts, and mathematical reasoning.
- Promote active learning, critical thinking, higher‑order thinking, and structured problem‑solving.
- Help students develop confidence, accuracy, logical reasoning, and independent study habits.
- Set and evaluate classwork, homework, projects, tests, and examination papers.
- Maintain accurate records of attainment, assessment, progress, and intervention.
- Analyse performance data to identify learning gaps and priority areas for improvement.
- Provide targeted academic support and additional revision sessions where required.
- Use differentiated instruction to support students with varied abilities.
- Provide constructive feedback that improves examination technique and mathematical understanding.
- Maintain effective classroom management and a positive learning environment.
- Fulfil class teacher responsibilities with close attention to student progress, enrichment, and wellbeing.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding achievement, concerns, and support strategies.
- Collaborate with mathematics teachers, coordinators, and school leaders on curriculum planning.
- Participate in assessment moderation, departmental meetings, academic reviews, and professional development.
- Use educational technology and digital resources to support teaching and learning.
- Contribute to mathematics competitions, enrichment programmes, and intervention activities.
- Follow school safeguarding, inclusion, behaviour, assessment, and professional conduct policies.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field.
- Recognised teaching qualification such as Bachelor of Education, PGCE, or equivalent.
- Relevant UAE teaching experience required.
- Proven experience teaching IGCSE Mathematics.
- Strong understanding of IGCSE curriculum content, assessment objectives, and examination standards.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare students effectively for external examinations.
- Strong mathematics subject knowledge across secondary grade levels.
- Experience preparing schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment tasks, and revision materials.
- Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Ability to analyse assessment data and implement effective intervention strategies.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- Excellent IT and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Ability to work closely with students, parents, colleagues, and school leaders.
