Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or related field.

Job description

As the Head of Sports Activities Section, you will support, organize, and promote sports and physical health activities at the University of Sharjah. You will ensure high standards of training and coaching, efficient use of resources, and the creative development of the physical health and sports curriculum. You will also help engage students in various sports activities, programs, and events to enhance and develop their physical skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all sports activities and teams at the sports complex and organize sports tournaments and championships that represent a positive image of the University, enhancing community health and fitness.
• Support and encourage a variety of sports activities and programs for individuals and teams, promoting a healthy lifestyle by encouraging community members to eat healthily and develop suitable exercise schedules.
• Coach and supervise the university team, encouraging students to compete and prepare for various sporting competitions.
• Assist in preparing the deanship’s budget by ensuring adequate provision for all sports activities and maintaining expenditures within budget limits.
• Suggest developments and improvements for the sports complex as needed.
• Communicate with university community members and external stakeholders—including governmental authorities, institutions, and departments—to organize and promote sports activities and encourage public participation.
• Provide leadership to the Sports Activities team, fostering capability development, offering training and coaching opportunities, and reporting on performance.
• Participate in hiring for the section, including identifying job requirements, reviewing resumes, and contributing to selection and interview processes to ensure suitable candidates are chosen.
• Track the section’s expenditures and ensure they remain within budget limits while collaborating with the Dean and other units on the department’s annual budget.
• Implement health and safety procedures at all times, handle sports injuries and emergencies, provide first aid, and coordinate with emergency personnel when necessary.

Required Skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents in both Arabic and English.
• Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications, with emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
• Ability to act calmly and quickly in emergencies.
• Knowledge of emergency and evacuation processes.
• Excellent time‑management skills.

Desirable Requirements

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or a related physical health discipline.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Fitness instructor certification (advantageous).
• 12–14 years of UAE experience in a similar role, preferably within higher education institutions.
• Priority will be given to UAE nationals.
