Job summary

Edison Smart is seeking a Head of Mechanical Engineering to own the mechanical function across international aviation fuel projects, based in Dubai. You will provide senior technical leadership through concept to commissioning, leading hydraulic analysis and ensuring compliance with JIG, EI, ASME and PED while mentoring the mechanical team.

The role requires 15+ years of relevant experience, leadership in a multinational setting, and strong knowledge of jet fuel systems and associated equipment.

Qualifications

• 15+ years' mechanical engineering experience within aviation fuel or related environments.
• Head of Mechanical, Mechanical Engineering Manager, Principal or Lead Mechanical Engineer experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical engineering function and provide senior technical authority.
• Oversee mechanical design and engineering delivery across aviation fuel projects.
• Lead hydraulic analysis and pressure surge modelling for fuel distribution systems.
• Ensure compliance with JIG 1, JIG 2, EI 1540, EI 1584, EI 1585, EI 1597, ASME and PED.
• Review designs, calculations, specifications and vendor documentation.
• Lead technical input into HAZOPs, design reviews, FATs and commissioning.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors and contractors.
• Mentor and develop mechanical engineers.
• Support proposals, client engagement and the continued growth of the mechanical function.

Head of Mechanical Engineering - Aviation Fuel

Location: Dubai UAE

The Role

A specialist engineering business within the aviation fuel sector is looking for a Head of Mechanical Engineering to take ownership of the mechanical function across a portfolio of international projects.

Based in Dubai, you will provide senior technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept and FEED through detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

The role will focus on jet fuel hydrant systems, valve chambers, fuel storage, piping, pressure vessels and associated process equipment, while providing technical direction to the wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical engineering function and provide senior technical authority.
• Oversee mechanical design and engineering delivery across aviation fuel projects.
• Lead hydraulic analysis and pressure surge modelling for fuel distribution systems.
• Ensure compliance with JIG 1, JIG 2, EI 1540, EI 1584, EI 1585, EI 1597, ASME and PED.

About You

• 15+ years' mechanical engineering experience within aviation fuel, oil & gas, downstream, petrochemical or similar environments.
• Previous experience as a Head of Mechanical, Mechanical Engineering Manager, Principal or Lead Mechanical Engineer.
• Strong experience with jet fuel hydrant systems, fuel storage, piping, pressure vessels and process equipment.
• Strong knowledge of JIG, Energy Institute, ASME VIII, ASME B31.3 and PED.
• Experience with hydraulic analysis and pressure surge modelling.
• Proven technical leadership and multidisciplinary project experience.
• UAE/GCC experience highly advantageous.
• Mechanical Engineering degree; CEng or equivalent desirable.
