Job summary

NMC Healthcare in Abu Dhabi seeks an experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to provide high-quality clinical services for gastrointestinal and liver disorders. You will diagnose, manage care plans, and perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy, while maintaining governance and patient safety.

The role requires 3–5 years post-qualification experience at consultant level and a valid gastroenterology certification, plus life support credentials.

Qualifications

• Qualified and licensed Medical Practitioner.
• 3–5 years of post-qualification experience at Consultant level.
• 1 year of Consultant-level experience in a Tier 1 country as per UAE regulator.
• Basic Medical Degree and completion of a recognized higher education programme (Fellowship/Diploma) accepted by UAE authority.
• Speciality certification and registration in Gastroenterology recognized by UAE authority.
• Active and valid life support certification (BLS/ACLS).
• Experience in managing complex gastroenterology cases and endoscopic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, evaluate, and manage GI, hepatobiliary, and liver disorders.
• Provide comprehensive consultations and treatment plans with follow-up.
• Perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy within scope of practice.
• Coordinate care with other specialties for complex cases.
• Ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and adherence to guidelines.
• Participate in clinical audits and CPD activities.
• Support junior physicians and healthcare staff as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, evaluate, and manage patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and liver disorders.
• Provide comprehensive consultations, develop treatment plans, and ensure appropriate follow-up care.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy, within the scope of practice.
• Manage complex gastroenterology cases and coordinate care with other medical specialties when required.
• Ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and adherence to clinical guidelines and hospital policies.
• Monitor clinical outcomes, identify potential risks, and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records, clinical reports, and patient documentation.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families, addressing concerns and explaining diagnoses and treatment options.
• Participate in clinical audits, peer reviews, departmental meetings, and continuing professional development activities.
• Support and guide junior physicians and other healthcare professionals as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-qualification experience at Consultant level, irrespective of country.
• Minimum 1 year of Consultant-level experience in a Tier 1 country, as specified by the relevant UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic Medical Degree and completion of a recognized higher education programme (Fellowship/Diploma) accepted by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Speciality certification and registration in Gastroenterology, recognized by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Active and valid life support certification, such as BLS, ACLS, or other relevant certifications, as applicable.
• Demonstrated experience in managing complex gastroenterology cases and performing relevant endoscopic procedures, within the scope of practice.
