Overview
The Estimation Engineer - Fire Safety Systems position, based in Dubai, focuses on preparing technical and commercial estimates for fire alarm, firefighting, emergency lighting, and related life safety systems. The incumbent will review drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and UAE authority requirements to deliver accurate and competitive project proposals that comply with local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documents, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and project scopes.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for fire alarm, firefighting, emergency lighting, and associated life safety systems.
- Calculate material quantities, labour requirements, equipment needs, subcontractor costs, and project overheads.
- Develop accurate bills of materials based on approved drawings and technical specifications.
- Obtain quotations from suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors, and specialist service providers.
- Compare vendor offers for technical compliance, pricing, delivery periods, warranties, and commercial terms.
- Prepare technical and commercial proposals in line with client requirements and submission deadlines.
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, design conflicts, and commercial risks before finalizing estimates.
- Coordinate with sales, engineering, procurement, operations, and project teams to validate proposed solutions.
- Review fire alarm layouts, firefighting system drawings, emergency lighting plans, and equipment schedules.
- Ensure proposed products and systems comply with project specifications and applicable UAE requirements.
- Maintain awareness of UAE fire codes, Civil Defence expectations, and relevant authority procedures.
- Support value engineering by recommending compliant and cost‑effective technical alternatives.
- Prepare cost comparisons, pricing summaries, tender clarifications, and management approval documents.
- Maintain updated supplier price lists, product catalogues, estimation templates, and historical project data.
- Track tender submissions and respond to technical or commercial clarification requests.
- Revise estimates following design changes, client comments, negotiations, or updated project requirements.
- Assist with project handover by transferring approved costing details, assumptions, and supplier information to execution teams.
- Review completed project costs to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
- Support maintenance quotations for existing fire and life safety systems when required.
- Maintain organized records of proposals, quotations, drawings, calculations, and correspondence.
- Complete other estimation and coordination duties assigned by management.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, such as B.E. or B.Tech.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in fire and life safety systems estimation.
- Practical estimating experience covering fire alarm, firefighting, emergency lighting, and related systems.
- Maintenance experience with fire and life safety equipment is preferred.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and bills of quantities.
- Understanding of material take‑offs, labour calculations, supplier quotations, and commercial pricing.
- Knowledge of UAE fire codes, Civil Defence requirements, and local authority procedures is preferred.
- Familiarity with fire alarm control panels, detectors, suppression systems, pumps, hydrants, sprinklers, extinguishers, and emergency lighting.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Careful attention to pricing accuracy, technical compliance, and tender deadlines.
- Effective communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work with suppliers, engineers, procurement personnel, and project teams.
- Organized approach to quotation records, technical documents, and cost databases.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general office software.
- Experience with AutoCAD, estimation software, or quantity take‑off tools is advantageous.
- Immediate availability is preferred.
