Kraken is building the future of open finance with a globally distributed engineering organization. The Exchange team focuses on trading backend services, including the matching engine, market data gateways, and order entry systems, coding primarily in C++, Rust, Go, and Python.

The role leads a team of 8–10 engineers, guiding their evolution from legacy components to modern stack while remaining technically engaged to unblock and contribute to architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams with hands-on engagement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 8–10 engineers owning core trading backend services.
• Guide the team through evolving trading stack from legacy systems to modern replacements.
• Stay technically close to the stack to unblock, review, and contribute to architecture discussions across matching engine, market data, and order entry.
• Champion performance and market data work as top priorities; support broader technical scope.
• Bring AI-assisted engineering practices into the team's workflow.
• Partner cross-functionally with product and other engineering pods to drive roadmap execution.
• Represent the team technically with peer teams and stakeholders, communicating tradeoffs and progress clearly.
