AECOM is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer for Wet Utilities in Abu Dhabi Emirate. You will oversee day-to-day site activities, supervise water transmission, sewerage, drainage and irrigation works, and ensure work complies with drawings, specs and Abu Dhabi authority requirements.

The role requires 8–12 years of civil engineering experience, familiarity with FIDIC and contract administration, and the ability to coordinate with contractors and multidisciplinary teams to maintain progress

Qualifications

Role Context

The Assistant Resident Engineer will provide day-to-day technical oversight for wet utilities construction, helping ensure that water, wastewater, drainage and irrigation systems are installed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and authority requirements. The position bridges design intent and site execution by monitoring construction quality, resolving technical issues and maintaining reliable project records. Working alongside the Resident Engineer, contractors and multidisciplinary specialists, the role will support progress control, testing, approvals and coordination across complex infrastructure interfaces. Strong knowledge of Abu Dhabi utility requirements is important because successful delivery depends on compliance with local authority procedures as well as international engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise construction activities involving water transmission and distribution networks, sewerage systems, stormwater drainage and irrigation infrastructure.
  • Monitor pipeline installation, excavation, bedding, backfilling, testing and reinstatement works against approved requirements.
  • Inspect manholes, chambers, pumping stations and associated civil works throughout construction.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications and design documentation before and during site execution.
  • Verify that contractors and subcontractors follow approved methods, technical requirements and project quality procedures.
  • Conduct quality inspections of materials, equipment, installations and completed utility components.
  • Witness relevant testing activities and maintain accurate records of results and acceptance status.
  • Identify construction deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with responsible parties.
  • Support resolution of technical issues involving utility alignments, crossings, diversions and interface conditions.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants and project teams to maintain progress across multiple work fronts.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer with planning, scheduling and organization of site activities and engineering resources.
  • Track construction progress and provide clear information regarding delays, constraints and outstanding technical matters.
  • Prepare daily reports, inspection records, technical correspondence and other project documentation.
  • Support preparation and review of as-built drawings and final utility records.
  • Maintain organized registers for materials, equipment, test reports and construction documentation.
  • Review contractor submissions and provide technical comments within assigned responsibilities.
  • Ensure wet utility works comply with applicable Abu Dhabi authority requirements and approval processes.
  • Monitor health, safety and environmental compliance during site activities and escalate significant concerns.
  • Support contract administration activities with awareness of relevant FIDIC requirements.
  • Participate in site meetings and contribute practical recommendations related to construction quality, sequencing and technical coordination.
  • Verify completion of corrective work before recommending closure of inspection or quality observations.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline and have between 8 and 12 years of professional experience supervising wet utility infrastructure construction. Strong practical knowledge of water transmission, sewerage, stormwater drainage, irrigation networks and utility diversions is required. Experience involving pipelines, manholes, chambers, pumping stations and associated civil works will be particularly relevant. Previous involvement in major UAE infrastructure developments is important, with Abu Dhabi project experience preferred. Candidates should understand local authority regulations, technical approval procedures and utility coordination requirements. The role requires confidence in reviewing drawings, specifications and technical reports and translating those requirements into effective site supervision. Familiarity with FIDIC contract conditions and construction contract administration will also strengthen suitability. Professional Engineering registration or an equivalent certification is preferred but not mandatory.
