Job summary

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi seeks an EEG Technician to independently conduct EEG operations, explain procedures to patients, and assist technologists in obtaining high-quality recordings. The role requires applying 10-20 system electrodes, recognizing artifacts, and documenting findings.

The successful candidate will perform routine, sleep, and bedside EEG, plus long-term video monitoring in the epilepsy monitoring unit, while maintaining equipment and inventories.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months hospital-experience required.
• Minimum 1 year on-the-job training.
• High School Certificate plus certification from an Allied Health program of at least 1 year.
• Related allied health qualification plus on-the-job EEG supervision training.

Responsibilities

• Explain the test procedure to obtain patient cooperation for a complete examination.
• Measure and apply electrodes according to the 10-20 system with proper impedance.
• Perform routine, sleep, and bedside EEG records per lab protocols.
• Conduct long-term video EEG monitoring in the epilepsy monitoring unit.
• Adjust machine controls to obtain optimal recordings and artifacts are minimized.
• Describe and annotate observed manifestations and changes during tests.
• Obtain comprehensive patient history from all sources.
• Write comprehensive technical EEG and EMU summary descriptions.
• Maintain inventory and rotate stock of supplies.
• Participate in technical conferences and meetings.

Job description

The role is responsible for independently conducting all operations related to EEG, analyses its record and assisting technologists in their task.

Responsibilities

• Explains the test procedure to the patient to obtain the patient’s cooperation necessary for a complete examination.
• Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 System. Ensure that electrode impedance meets laboratory standards.
• Performs EEG records according to the standards and protocols of the laboratory (routine, sleep, and bedside).
• Performs long-term video monitoring EEG in the epilepsy monitoring unit
• Implements alternative methods or adjusts controls of the machine to obtain the optimal recording.
• Distinguishes between normal and abnormal test results – describes and annotates all manifestations and changes observed during tests.
• Recognizes artifacts and perform proper steps to eliminate, monitor or document.
• Obtain a comprehensive patient history gathering appropriate information from all sources.
• Writes and prepares comprehensive technical EEG and EMU summary description.
• Maintains a necessary inventory of supplies for an assigned room or workstation, rotation of stock in an orderly fashion and eliminating outdated items.
• Participates in technical conferences and meetings

Accountabilities

• Performs technical solutions to equipment’s problems when needed while performing an EEG
• Cleans and maintain the equipment after each procedure according to hospital’s infection control policy
• Obtain a satisfactory EEG recording to aid physician in their interpretation

Qualifications
