Responsibilities

• Conduct Neurodiagnostic studies independently or under supervision.
• Prepare patients and conduct EEG recordings.

• Perform Evoked Potentials (Visual, Brainstem, Somatosensory).
• Perform Nerve Conduction Studies and assist during EMG.
• Adjust machine controls to obtain optimal recordings.
• Distinguish normal from abnormal results and annotate findings.
• Identify artifacts and document steps to minimize them.
• Collect comprehensive patient history.
• Write and prepare technical EEG and EMU summaries.
• Maintain inventory and stock rotation.
• Participate in technical conferences and meetings.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

To conduct all Neurodiagnostic studies independently or under the supervision of a senior technologist.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Explains the test procedure to the patient to obtain the patient’s cooperation necessary for a complete examination.
• Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 System. Ensure that electrode impedance meet laboratory standards.
• Performs EEG record according to the standards of the laboratory (routine, sleep, and bedside).
• Performs long‑term video monitoring EEG in epilepsy monitoring unit.
• Performs Evoked Potentials such as Visual, Brainstem, and Somatosensory studies with high quality results.
• Performs Nerve Conduction Study in a highly skilled and patient‑appropriate manner and assist physician during EMG procedure.
• Implements alternative methods or adjust controls of the machine to obtain optimal recording.
• Distinguishes between normal and abnormal test results – describes and annotates all manifestations and changes observed during tests.
• Recognizes artifacts and performs proper steps to eliminate, monitor or document.
• Obtains a comprehensive patient history gathering appropriate information from all sources.
• Writes and prepares comprehensive technical EEG and EMU summary description.
• Maintains a necessary inventory of supplies for an assigned room or workstation, rotation of stock in an orderly fashion and eliminating outdated items.
• Participates in technical conferences and meetings.

Accountabilities

• Performs technical solutions to equipment’s problems when needed while performing an EEG.
• Cleans and maintains the equipment after each procedure according to hospital’s infection control policy.
• Obtains a satisfactory EEG recording to aid physician in their interpretation.
