Job summary

GEMS Education’s School of Research & Innovation is seeking a hands‑on Design & Technology Technician to join our team in Dubai. You will prepare materials, set up equipment, and support teachers and students during practical lessons while ensuring safety and compliance.

The role emphasizes maintaining tools, managing stock, and keeping workshops clean and well-organised. You will contribute to authentic, inquiry‑based learning experiences through reliable digital systems and proactive problem

Qualifications

• BA Degree in Design or related field.
• Experience in a workshop, DT, engineering, manufacturing or similar technical environment.
• Good knowledge of tools, machinery, materials and workshop practices.
• Confident supporting young people in a practical learning environment.
• Strong understanding of health and safety.
• Organised, reliable and able to manage resources effectively.
• Able to work independently while also being a supportive team member.
• Proactive approach to problem solving.
• Maintains a safe, clean and well organised working environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up materials, tools and equipment for practical DT lessons.
• Support teachers and students during practical sessions, ensuring tools and machinery are used safely.
• Maintain and regularly check workshop tools, machinery and equipment to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.
• Carry out safety checks, risk assessments and maintain appropriate records.
• Manage DT resources and stock, including monitoring inventory and ordering materials.
• Ensure materials, tools and equipment are stored safely and appropriately.
• Maintain clean, organised and well-presented workshops, preparation rooms and storage areas.
• Provide basic technical repairs, fabrication and practical support where required.
• Assist with DT displays, exhibitions, projects and school events.
• Identify and report equipment faults, hazards or incidents promptly.
• Support the department in maintaining high standards of workshop readiness and organisation.

About the role

GEMS School of Research & Innovation is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and safety-conscious Design & Technology (DT) Technician to join our team.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the delivery of an engaging and practical DT curriculum. You will work closely with teachers and students to ensure workshops are well prepared, equipment is maintained, resources are available and all practical activities are carried out safely.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a workshop environment, has good technical skills and takes pride in maintaining high standards of organisation and safety.

You will contribute to GEMS SRI’s mission to provide authentic, inquiry‑based learning experiences by ensuring that our digital systems are robust, efficient, and forward‑looking.

Key Responsibilities
