Job summary

YOSH is seeking a dedicated Dog Handler to provide daily care, safety, and training support for dogs in a busy environment. The role requires strong canine knowledge, the ability to follow SOPs, and physical fitness to manage dogs of varying sizes.

Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome; weekend and some evenings may be required. DBS checks and relevant certifications are encouraged. Travel to different sites may be needed.

Qualifications

• Previous experience handling dogs in a professional or volunteer capacity (shelter kennels training school or security) is desirable.
• Strong understanding of canine behaviour, body language and basic training principles.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to follow written training plans and standard operating procedures.
• Physically able to manage dogs of varying size and energy levels including lifting and restraining when necessary.
• Hold a full UK driving licence or have reliable means of travel to different sites (desirable but not mandatory).
• Willingness to undertake DBS check first aid training and any required certificates relevant to the role.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and control dogs on-site and at external locations ensuring public safety and animal welfare.
• Provide daily care including feeding grooming exercise and monitoring of health and behaviour.
• Assist with basic training tasks and reinforcement of training plans under the guidance of senior trainers or behaviourists.
• Complete accurate records of each dogs behaviour health observations and training progress using our systems.
• Manage kennel maintenance and ensure hygienic environments are maintained to industry standards.
• Support veterinary appointments and follow through with prescribed treatments as required.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet operational needs including weekend and occasional evening shifts.

The role is ideal for someone with a strong passion for canine welfare experience in handling dogs of varying sizes and temperaments and a professional attitude. You will be responsible for the care training support and safe handling of dogs within a busy environment. This position is open to applicants from all backgrounds and is gender neutral.

• Certificate in canine first aid or willingness to obtain within probation period.
• Relevant health and safety training or willingness to complete on induction.

Working hours salary and benefits

• Full-time and part-time hours available; shift patterns include weekdays weekends and occasional evenings.
• Competitive salary dependent on experience with opportunities for overtime.
