Role Context

The Director - Technology Governance and Assurance provides Group-level leadership over the frameworks that govern how technology investments, risks, suppliers, budgets, portfolios, and delivery standards are managed. The role operates across multiple businesses and regions, ensuring that technology teams follow consistent policies while maintaining sufficient flexibility to address specific operational requirements. This position has direct influence on technology risk exposure, financial control, regulatory compliance, project quality, and executive decision-making. By strengthening governance and assurance processes, the Director helps ensure that technology resources are allocated effectively, risks are identified early, vendors remain accountable, and major initiatives deliver measurable business value.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Group technology governance frameworks aligned with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and business priorities.
  • Define governance standards covering decision rights, accountability, approvals, escalation, and oversight across technology functions.
  • Establish policies and control mechanisms that promote consistent technology governance across different businesses and regions.
  • Conduct or oversee audits, assessments, and control reviews to evaluate adherence to technology policies and required standards.
  • Identify technology risks and ensure appropriate mitigation plans, ownership, timelines, and escalation mechanisms are established.
  • Maintain visibility of material technology risks and provide clear reporting to senior leadership.
  • Define and govern demand management processes for evaluating and prioritizing technology requirements.
  • Establish portfolio management frameworks that improve visibility of investments, delivery priorities, dependencies, and business value.
  • Set vendor management standards covering contracts, performance, service levels, risk, compliance, and commercial accountability.
  • Review strategic vendor performance and ensure contractual obligations support business and technology expectations.
  • Define financial control processes for technology planning, budgeting, forecasting, and expenditure governance.
  • Forecast financial requirements for strategic technology initiatives and monitor budget utilization against approved plans.
  • Identify material budget variances and work with stakeholders to address cost or investment concerns.
  • Establish quality assurance practices across technology programs, projects, systems, and delivery processes.
  • Monitor adherence to quality requirements and coordinate corrective actions where delivery standards are not achieved.
  • Develop governance dashboards, metrics, and management reporting for technology leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Lead structured assurance reviews across major programs and technology initiatives.
  • Strengthen alignment between governance, risk management, audit, cybersecurity, architecture, finance, procurement, and technology delivery teams.
  • Lead change management activities supporting adoption of new governance processes, controls, operating models, and technology initiatives.
  • Guide cross-functional teams through complex governance and assurance requirements while maintaining business momentum.
  • Oversee continuous improvement of technology governance, risk, vendor, portfolio, and financial management processes.
  • Support regulatory reviews, internal audits, external audits, and management responses to technology-related findings.
  • Build governance capability across teams through leadership, coaching, standards, and practical guidance.
Ideal Profile

The successful candidate should bring 10-15 years of professional experience across technology PMO, governance, risk management, assurance, audit, or related Group technology functions. A bachelor 's or master 's degree in Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Analysis, or a related field is expected. Equivalent professional experience may also be considered where appropriate. Candidates should demonstrate substantial leadership experience managing complex cross-functional technology programs, governance structures, and specialist teams across large organizations. Strong knowledge of enterprise technology governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, portfolio management, demand management, vendor governance, financial control, and quality assurance is essential. Certification in Governance of Enterprise IT is required or strongly relevant. CISA, CISM, or equivalent risk and compliance certifications are also expected, while Project Management Professional and ITIL credentials support the broader delivery and service governance responsibilities of the role. The position requires an executive-level communicator who can translate complex technology, risk, financial, and governance matters into clear recommendations for senior business stakeholders.
