Director of Strategy & Tactical Sourcing (TAX FREE, Defense Industry)

The Director of Strategy & Tactical Sourcing will lead the strategic sourcing efforts for operational requirements and engineering/projects within the defense industry. This role encompasses executing long-term contracts for all commodities, overseeing various procurement heads, and ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinking capabilities, and a deep understanding of procurement processes in a defense context.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to a team of procurement professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the procurement department.

Artificial Intelligence Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement AI-driven strategies to optimize sourcing processes and enhance decision-making.

Process Optimization:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement initiatives to streamline sourcing processes.

Quality Assurance and Control:

  • Ensure that all procured materials and services meet quality standards and specifications.

Supplier and Vendor Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and implement strategies to mitigate risks.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards in the defense industry.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in sourcing operations.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Develop and manage budgets for sourcing activities.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies without compromising quality or performance.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Oversee the documentation and reporting processes related to sourcing activities.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management regarding procurement performance and key metrics.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing and procurement, preferably in the defense industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in leveraging artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies for sourcing optimization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and safety standards in the defense industry eg ITAR
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Certification in procurement (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is a plus.
