Job summary

Ali & Sons Group in Abu Dhabi seeks an experienced Diagnostic Technician to accurately diagnose, repair, and test vehicle systems in line with manufacturer standards. You will support workshop teams, use advanced diagnostic tools, and communicate findings clearly to technicians and customers.

The role requires 3–4 years of relevant experience, a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, and fluency in Arabic and English.

• 3–4 years of relevant experience as a Diagnostic Technician or automotive technician.
• Fluency in both Arabic and English.
• Strong knowledge of automotive mechanical, electrical, electronic, and diagnostic systems.
• Experience using automotive diagnostic and testing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist Technician Mechanics in performing technical and diagnostic activities.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and standards.
• Repair and replace vehicle components including braking, hydraulic, exhaust, fuel/ignition, electrical, suspension, and A/C systems.
• Use diagnostic/testing equipment to identify faults in modern vehicles, including ECU testing.
• Conduct systematic diagnosis to identify root causes and determine repair requirements.
• Test vehicle systems before and after repairs to verify quality.
• Coordinate with Parts Advisors to ensure correct parts are available for repairs.
• Report significant diagnostic findings to Service/Workshop Manager.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Technician Mechanics in performing technical and diagnostic activities.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and standards.
• Repair and replace vehicle components including braking and hydraulic systems, exhaust systems, fuel and ignition systems, electrical systems, suspension and alignment systems, air-conditioning systems, and computer-controlled systems.
• Use appropriate diagnostic and testing equipment to identify faults in modern vehicles, including testing electronic control units (ECUs).
• Conduct systematic diagnosis to identify the root cause of vehicle faults and determine the appropriate repair requirements.
• Test vehicle systems before and after repairs to confirm proper operation and repair effectiveness.
• Identify additional repairs or defects not mentioned in the original job card and communicate them clearly to the Service Advisor.
• Determine the scope of work required on vehicles and provide accurate technical information to the Service Advisor.
• Explain technical diagnoses, repair requirements, and recommendations clearly to non-technical employees and customers when required.
• Coordinate with Parts Advisors to ensure the correct parts are identified and available for required repairs.
• Liaise with vehicle manufacturers and relevant technical teams regarding complex technical issues and repair requirements.
• Conduct vehicle quality checks and road tests as required to verify repair quality and vehicle performance.
• Continuously develop technical knowledge by attending formal training sessions and keeping up to date with evolving automotive technologies.
• Assist with the maintenance and proper operation of workshop equipment.
• Provide technical assistance to other workshop personnel when difficulties arise during repair activities.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working bay.
• Report technical issues and significant diagnostic findings to the Service Manager or Workshop Manager.
• Follow all applicable workshop, manufacturer, health, safety, and quality procedures.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Service Manager or Workshop Manager.

Role Purpose

To accurately diagnose, repair, and test vehicle systems in accordance with manufacturer standards, ensuring faults are correctly identified and resolved while supporting the workshop team in delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality vehicle repairs.

What We're Looking For

Experience: Minimum of 3–4 years of relevant experience as a Diagnostic Technician, Automotive Technician, or in a similar technical position.

Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related automotive discipline.

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of automotive mechanical, electrical, electronic, and diagnostic systems.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing braking, hydraulic, exhaust, fuel and ignition, electrical, suspension, steering, air-conditioning, and computer-controlled systems.
• Hands-on experience using automotive diagnostic and testing equipment.
• Knowledge of ECU fault diagnosis and electronic vehicle systems.
• Ability to perform vehicle testing, road testing, and post-repair quality checks.
• Ability to identify additional repair requirements and communicate technical findings clearly.
• Good understanding of manufacturer repair procedures and technical standards.

Software Skills:

• Computer literate with the ability to use computerized diagnostic equipment and relevant workshop systems.

Languages: Fluency in both Arabic and English is essential.
