Position Overview

The Design Manager - RTA Infrastructure Projects at AECOM leads and manages the design development of major road and infrastructure projects in Dubai. This role is responsible for ensuring all design activities comply with RTA standards, Dubai authority requirements, and international best practices, while coordinating multidisciplinary teams and supporting projects from concept through construction and closeout.

Role Summary

The Design Manager is accountable for overseeing the full design lifecycle of RTA infrastructure projects, including roads, interchanges, utilities, drainage, and associated works. The role ensures technical quality, regulatory compliance, timely approvals, and effective coordination between internal teams, authorities, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage design development for RTA infrastructure projects including roads, interchanges, utilities, drainage, structures, lighting, ITS, and landscaping.
• Review, coordinate, and approve design deliverables at concept, preliminary, detailed, and IFC stages.
• Ensure compliance with RTA manuals, Dubai authority requirements (DM, DEWA, Etisalat, Du), and applicable international standards.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities and manage interfaces to eliminate clashes and conflicts.
• Review and provide technical input on calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and cost estimates.
• Review, respond to, and close out RTA design review comments within agreed timelines.
• Liaise directly with RTA Engineering, Traffic, and Safety departments during design development and approvals.
• Ensure compliance with road safety audit requirements, traffic staging, and temporary traffic management designs.
• Support preparation and review of authority submissions, NOCs, and permits.
• Participate in design coordination meetings, technical workshops, and value engineering sessions.
• Identify design risks and propose innovative, cost-effective, and constructible solutions.
• Provide technical support during tender stage including responses to queries and clarifications.
• Support construction teams by reviewing RFIs, design changes, and technical queries.
• Mentor junior engineers and ensure deliverables meet quality, schedule, and approval targets.
• Ensure document control compliance with the Design Management Plan and QA QC procedures.
• Contribute to preparation of as-built drawings and design closeout documentation.
