Job summary

Azizi Developments in the UAE seeks an experienced Design Engineer – Formwork to develop safe, economical formwork and shoring solutions for our construction projects. You will prepare GA drawings, perform design calculations and maintain documentation, using AutoCAD and related software, while ensuring BS/European standards compliance.

The role requires strong knowledge of temporary works, PERI/Doka systems, and the ability to coordinate with site teams to meet project timelines.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in formwork design.
• Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD 2D; 3D experience is an advantage.
• Understanding of BS Standards, Codes of Practice and temporary works design.
• Exposure to PERI, Doka or similar formwork systems.
• Ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings and construction sequencing.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites; UAE/GCC candidates preferred.

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer – Formwork to develop safe, accurate and cost-effective formwork and shoring solutions for our construction projects.

Job Summary

The Design Engineer – Formwork will be responsible for independently preparing formwork and shoring designs, engineering calculations, technical drawings and material take-offs. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of temporary works principles, formwork systems and relevant engineering standards, with the ability to deliver accurate design outputs within project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Design Duties

• Prepare safe, economical and buildable formwork and shoring design solutions for building and infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and develop:
• General Arrangement (GA) drawings
• Assembly drawings
• Basic steel fabrication drawings
• 2D and 3D models
• Carry out engineering design calculations independently using design tables, standard data sheets, Excel templates, in-house tools and structural analysis software.
• Apply knowledge of proprietary formwork systems such as PERI, Doka or equivalent systems.
• Prepare accurate material take-offs and material lists.
• Maintain engineering documentation, drawing registers and design records.
• Ensure designs are practical, safe, economical and suitable for the planned construction sequence.

Project & Team Support

• Work closely with Team Leaders, Senior Engineers and the wider design team to deliver project requirements within agreed timelines.
• Participate in technical and project coordination meetings as required.
• Provide technical support to site and construction teams.
• Liaise with suppliers and fabricators to obtain technical information, standard system details and design inputs.
• Assist in resolving technical queries related to formwork and shoring systems.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all design work complies with relevant BS/European Standards, Codes of Practice, project specifications and company engineering procedures.
• Follow company quality management and document-control systems.
• Apply safe design principles across all engineering outputs.
• Carry out design checks as instructed and incorporate comments from checking engineers.
• Ensure drawings, calculations and material lists are accurate and properly documented.

Learning & Development

• Continuously develop technical knowledge of formwork, shoring and scaffolding systems.
• Participate in internal training, CPD activities and supplier product training.
• Develop a strong understanding of structural and architectural drawings and construction sequencing.
• Build proficiency in AutoCAD, structural analysis software and company-specific design tools.
• Stay updated on relevant formwork products, systems and temporary works practices.

Site & Project Support

• Conduct site visits when required to gain practical exposure to formwork erection and construction activities.
• Support site teams in resolving design-related issues.
• Perform other related duties assigned by Senior Engineers or management.

Requirements

• Diploma/Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent relevant qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in formwork design.
• Strong experience in construction/civil engineering environments.
• Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD 2D; 3D experience will be an advantage.
• Understanding of BS Standards, Codes of Practice and temporary works design principles.
• Practical exposure to PERI, Doka or similar proprietary formwork systems.
• Experience preparing formwork and shoring drawings, calculations and material take-offs.
• Knowledge of structural analysis/design software will be an advantage.
• Formwork supplier/product training certifications will be an advantage.
• Strong ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings and understand construction sequencing.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a technical engineering team.
• Valid UAE Driving Licence is preferred/required as per project requirements.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Candidates currently available in the UAE/GCC are preferred.
