Job summary

Azizi Developments in the UAE seeks an Assistant Design Engineer – Formwork to support the design team in preparing formwork, shoring and scaffolding drawings, material take-offs and technical documentation for construction projects.

The role targets civil engineers with 2–5 years experience in formwork drafting/design, who are eager to develop expertise in temporary works design and stay aligned with project requirements and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• 2–5 years of relevant construction/civil engineering experience.
• Minimum 2 years of formwork-related drafting/design experience.
• Good knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
• Basic understanding of construction and structural drawings.
• Basic understanding of construction sequencing and temporary works.
• Exposure to formwork, shoring or scaffolding systems preferred.
• Exposure to PERI, Doka or similar formwork systems advantageous.
• MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing formwork, shoring and scaffolding drawings under senior engineer guidance.
• Prepare GA drawings, assembly drawings and 2D CAD drawings.
• Modify existing drawings per design changes and feedback.
• Prepare material take-offs and material lists.
• Use AutoCAD and templates to produce clear engineering drawings.
• Ensure drawings updated with design changes.

We are looking for an Assistant Design Engineer – Formwork to support the design and engineering team in preparing formwork, shoring and scaffolding drawings, material take-offs and technical documentation for construction projects.

Job Summary

The Assistant Design Engineer – Formwork will support Senior Design Engineers in developing accurate and practical formwork and temporary works solutions. This role is suitable for a civil engineering professional with 2–5 years of experience, including relevant formwork drafting/design exposure, who is looking to develop a career in formwork and temporary works design.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting Support

• Assist in preparing formwork, shoring and scaffolding drawings under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Prepare basic:
• General Arrangement (GA) drawings
• Assembly drawings
• 2D CAD drawings
• Modify existing standard drawings based on engineering instructions and project requirements.
• Assist in preparing material take-offs and material lists.
• Use AutoCAD and company templates to prepare clear, accurate and professional drawings.
• Ensure drawings are updated based on design changes and engineering feedback.

Technical & Project Support

• Support Design Engineers with basic design activities and technical documentation.
• Assist with simple engineering calculations under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Gather technical information from suppliers, manufacturers and formwork system manuals.
• Assist in reviewing construction drawings and identifying relevant formwork requirements.
• Participate in technical and project coordination meetings when required.
• Coordinate with the design team to ensure timely completion of assigned deliverables.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Follow company engineering procedures, drawing standards and document-control requirements.
• Ensure drawings and technical documents are accurate, properly formatted and issued correctly.
• Apply safe design principles to all assigned formwork and temporary works activities.
• Incorporate corrections and comments received from checking/senior engineers.
• Maintain proper records of drawings, revisions and technical documents.

Learning & Development

• Develop knowledge of formwork, shoring and scaffolding systems.
• Build proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and company drafting standards.
• Develop an understanding of:
• Structural and construction drawings
• Temporary works principles
• Formwork systems and applications
• Participate in internal training, supplier training and relevant technical development programs.
• Develop familiarity with proprietary formwork systems such as PERI, Doka or equivalent systems.

Site & Office Support

• Visit project sites when required to gain practical exposure to construction and formwork erection activities.
• Support engineers in resolving basic site-related technical queries.
• Assist the engineering team with technical and administrative activities as required.

Requirements

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in construction/civil engineering.
• Minimum 2 years of formwork-related drafting/design experience.
• Good knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
• Basic understanding of construction and structural drawings.
• Basic understanding of construction sequencing and temporary works.
• Exposure to formwork, shoring or scaffolding systems is preferred.
• Exposure to PERI, Doka or similar proprietary formwork systems will be an advantage.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions accurately.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Strong willingness to learn and build a career in formwork/temporary works design.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a technical team.
• Valid UAE Driving Licence is preferred/required as per project requirements.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Candidates currently available in the UAE/GCC are preferred.
