Position Overview
Consultant Surgeon – Paediatric Vascular is a senior position within a specialised children’s hospital, responsible for the surgical and peri‑operative care of infants, children and adolescents experiencing complex vascular conditions. The role requires a highly experienced paediatric vascular surgeon skilled in congenital and acquired disorders, vascular malformations, reconstructive procedures, emergency trauma, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired vascular conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
- Perform paediatric vascular surgical procedures, including reconstructions, malformation treatment, aneurysm management, and complex vascular access.
- Evaluate patients clinically, with imaging, and via multidisciplinary consultation.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations, ensuring timely and accurate treatment decisions.
- Participate in emergency management of vascular trauma, acute limb ischemia, bleeding complications, and urgent vascular conditions.
- Develop individualized surgical plans, peri‑operative pathways, post‑operative recovery plans, and follow‑up schedules.
- Collaborate with surgeons, interventional radiologists, cardiologists, intensivists, plastic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses, and allied professionals.
- Support the management of vascular malformations and anomalies requiring staged care, reconstruction, or hybrid interventions.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, surgical options, risks, recovery, and follow‑up.
- Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, post‑operative instructions, and clinical documentation per UAE standards.
- Contribute to clinical audits, case reviews, teaching activities, research, and continuing medical education.
- Adhere to patient safety, infection control, quality improvement, ethical practice, and hospital governance standards.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
- Board certification or fellowship in Vascular Surgery with paediatric vascular subspecialty experience.
- Valid UAE consultant licence or eligibility (DOH Consultant Licence or Eligibility Letter) in Vascular Surgery is advantageous.
- Minimum 5–7 years post‑board consultant experience in paediatric vascular surgery within a tertiary or academic hospital.
- Expertise in complex paediatric vascular procedures, reconstruction, vascular access, and malformations.
- Experience managing arterial, venous, lymphatic, traumatic, and congenital vascular disorders in paediatric patients.
- Exposure to hybrid or endovascular paediatric procedures is an advantage.
- Strong surgical judgment for high‑risk cases in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining complex decisions to families and clinical teams.
- Academic, teaching, audit, or research experience preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare setting with empathy, precision, and professionalism.
