Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Vascular Surgeon will provide highly specialized surgical assessment and treatment for children with complex vascular conditions requiring careful anatomical evaluation, precise operative planning, and coordinated postoperative management. The position covers congenital vascular abnormalities, acquired arterial and venous disease, lymphatic disorders, vascular trauma, malformations, aneurysms, and challenging vascular access requirements. Working alongside pediatric surgeons, interventional radiologists, intensivists, cardiologists, plastic surgeons, and other specialists, the consultant will help deliver safe and effective treatment for both elective and urgent pediatric vascular cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired vascular disorders and establish appropriate diagnostic and treatment pathways.
- Perform complex pediatric vascular surgical procedures including arterial and venous reconstruction, vascular access procedures, and surgery for selected vascular anomalies.
- Manage vascular malformations, aneurysms, arterial disease, venous conditions, and lymphatic disorders affecting pediatric patients.
- Evaluate vascular imaging, clinical findings, hemodynamic information, and laboratory investigations when planning surgical intervention.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for children requiring specialist vascular surgical assessment.
- Develop individualized operative and postoperative care strategies based on age, anatomy, disease severity, and associated medical conditions.
- Participate in emergency treatment of pediatric vascular trauma, acute ischemia, hemorrhage, thrombosis, and other urgent vascular presentations.
- Work closely with interventional radiology teams when hybrid or minimally invasive vascular approaches are appropriate.
- Coordinate complex cases with pediatric surgery, cardiology, intensive care, plastic surgery, anesthesia, and other relevant specialties.
- Discuss diagnosis, treatment alternatives, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and postoperative recovery with patients and families.
- Monitor postoperative vascular function, wound healing, circulation, complications, and recovery following surgical intervention.
- Maintain accurate documentation covering consultations, imaging review, operative findings, procedures, treatment plans, and follow-up.
- Supervise junior physicians, fellows, and surgical team members involved in pediatric vascular care.
- Participate in clinical audits, multidisciplinary case reviews, teaching activities, research, and continuing medical education.
- Support infection prevention, surgical safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based standards throughout the pediatric vascular service.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Board Certification or Fellowship in Vascular Surgery.
- Subspecialty experience or advanced clinical exposure in Pediatric Vascular Surgery.
- Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience involving pediatric vascular surgery within a tertiary or academic hospital.
- Strong experience performing complex vascular reconstruction in pediatric patients.
- Demonstrated competence managing congenital vascular anomalies, malformations, arterial disease, venous disorders, and difficult vascular access.
- Experience handling emergency pediatric vascular conditions and traumatic vascular injuries.
- Exposure to hybrid vascular or endovascular pediatric procedures is advantageous.
- Previous involvement in multidisciplinary vascular anomaly programs is highly relevant.
- Academic teaching, clinical research, publication, or fellowship supervision experience is preferred.
- Strong surgical judgment with the ability to evaluate complex anatomical and clinical factors before intervention.
- Effective communication skills when working with children, families, surgeons, physicians, and multidisciplinary care teams.
- Eligibility for appropriate Consultant medical licensing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
