Role Overview

The Consultant Paediatric Vascular Surgeon position in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, requires a minimum of 5–7 years of post‑board consultant experience. The role delivers advanced surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired vascular disorders at a leading children’s hospital in Abu Dhabi. Candidates will manage arterial, venous, lymphatic, traumatic, and complex vascular conditions through open, hybrid, and endovascular treatment approaches and work within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired vascular conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments of pediatric arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders.
  • Develop individualized diagnostic, operative, and long‑term treatment plans based on patient age, anatomy, growth, and clinical needs.
  • Perform complex pediatric vascular reconstructions using open surgical techniques.
  • Manage vascular malformations, pediatric aneurysms, arterial occlusive conditions, venous disorders, and lymphatic abnormalities.
  • Perform and supervise complex vascular access procedures for pediatric patients requiring long‑term treatment.
  • Participate in hybrid and endovascular procedures when clinically appropriate.
  • Evaluate and manage pediatric patients with traumatic vascular injuries and acute limb‑threatening conditions.
  • Provide emergency vascular consultation and surgical coverage for critically ill or injured children.
  • Assess patients before surgery through clinical examination, imaging review, laboratory evaluation, and multidisciplinary consultation.
  • Interpret duplex ultrasound, CT angiography, MR angiography, conventional angiography, and related vascular investigations.
  • Coordinate perioperative planning with pediatric anesthesiologists, intensivists, and operating theatre teams.
  • Collaborate with pediatric surgeons, interventional radiologists, cardiologists, plastic surgeons, hematologists, and other specialists.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary vascular anomaly clinics and complex case conferences.
  • Develop postoperative plans covering circulation monitoring, pain control, anticoagulation, wound care, infection prevention, and rehabilitation.
  • Monitor patients for graft complications, thrombosis, bleeding, ischemia, infection, and recurrent vascular disease.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for new, follow‑up, and complex referral cases.
  • Counsel parents and guardians regarding diagnoses, treatment alternatives, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and follow‑up requirements.
  • Obtain informed consent and maintain clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive communication.
  • Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, imaging reviews, treatment plans, consent records, and discharge documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with surgical safety checklists, infection control standards, medication protocols, and patient identification requirements.
  • Follow applicable UAE healthcare regulations, DOH requirements, hospital policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality obligations.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, incident investigations, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to pediatric vascular surgery pathways, emergency protocols, surgical standards, and patient‑safety programs.
  • Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, junior physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in teaching, clinical training, research, academic presentations, and continuing medical education.
  • Maintain current knowledge of pediatric vascular reconstruction, endovascular techniques, vascular anomaly management, and emerging surgical technologies.
Ideal Profile
  • Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Completed specialist training in General Surgery followed by accredited training in Vascular Surgery.
  • Board certification or fellowship in Vascular Surgery.
  • Subspecialty training or substantial clinical experience in Paediatric Vascular Surgery.
  • Valid UAE consultant license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate professional license.
  • DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Vascular Surgery is required for practice at the employing facility in Abu Dhabi.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of post‑board consultant experience in pediatric vascular surgery.
  • Previous experience in a tertiary‑care children’s hospital, academic medical centre, or specialist vascular programme.
  • Strong expertise in pediatric vascular reconstruction and complex congenital vascular conditions.
  • Proven experience managing vascular malformations, vascular anomalies, aneurysms, arterial disease, venous disorders, and lymphatic conditions.
  • Practical experience with pediatric vascular access procedures and emergency vascular trauma care.
  • Exposure to hybrid vascular and endovascular pediatric procedures is advantageous.
  • Ability to interpret pediatric vascular imaging and develop detailed operative plans.
  • Strong knowledge of anticoagulation, thrombosis prevention, graft surveillance, and postoperative vascular care.
  • Excellent operative judgment, technical ability, leadership, and complication‑management skills.
  • Academic teaching, clinical research, audit participation, or publication experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and counselling skills with a family‑centred approach to pediatric care.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary surgical, medical, imaging, and rehabilitation teams.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, ethical practice, and evidence‑based surgery.
