Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Vascular Surgeon - Complex Care will provide specialist surgical and non-surgical management for children with complex vascular conditions, including congenital anomalies, arterial disease, venous disorders, lymphatic abnormalities, vascular malformations, aneurysms, and traumatic vascular injuries. The role requires advanced operative judgment, careful treatment planning, and close collaboration with pediatric surgery, interventional radiology, cardiology, intensive care, plastic surgery, and other specialist teams to improve functional outcomes and reduce long-term complications.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired vascular disorders in pediatric patients.
- Evaluate infants, children, and adolescents with arterial, venous, and lymphatic abnormalities.
- Perform complex pediatric vascular reconstruction procedures according to clinical need.
- Manage vascular malformations using appropriate surgical and multidisciplinary treatment strategies.
- Assess and treat pediatric aneurysms and other uncommon vascular conditions.
- Perform complex vascular access procedures for children requiring long-term or specialized treatment.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for pediatric vascular surgery cases.
- Manage pediatric vascular trauma and acute vascular emergencies requiring urgent intervention.
- Develop individualized surgical plans based on anatomy, disease severity, age, and clinical risk.
- Coordinate postoperative monitoring and follow-up to support healing, circulation, and functional recovery.
- Collaborate with pediatric surgeons, interventional radiologists, cardiologists, intensivists, plastic surgeons, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions involving vascular anomalies and complex reconstructive cases.
- Work with interventional teams in hybrid vascular or endovascular procedures where clinically appropriate.
- Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and postoperative care.
- Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, imaging findings, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety, infection control, clinical governance, and institutional quality standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, research, teaching, and continuing medical education activities.
- Support education and mentoring of junior physicians, fellows, and other healthcare professionals.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Board Certification or Fellowship in Vascular Surgery.
- Subspecialty experience or advanced training in Pediatric Vascular Surgery.
- Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric vascular surgery.
- Strong background working within a tertiary care or academic hospital environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in complex pediatric vascular and reconstructive procedures.
- Experience managing congenital vascular malformations and pediatric vascular anomalies.
- Strong knowledge of arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders in children.
- Exposure to hybrid vascular and endovascular pediatric procedures is advantageous.
- Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility to obtain consultant-level licensing in Dubai.
- Strong surgical judgment and ability to manage high-risk pediatric cases.
- Excellent communication and family counselling skills.
- Able to work effectively within multidisciplinary pediatric and surgical teams.
- Academic, research, publication, or teaching experience is preferred.
- Comfortable working within a multicultural healthcare environment.
